I was going to say DH bought this but then I think it may have been

the Matrix. Whatever, haven't watched it and don't intend to.

I agree. I was disappointed by it (we hired it last week). Don't get

me wrong, I thought it was quite funny but a) I wondered what I used

to see in Mel Gibson and B) didn't think it stood up to its rave

reviews by friends.

Personally, I'd sometimes rather sit thru the 43rd showing of Willy

Wonka or Dinosaur or any one of the other half dozen kids' movies we

have on DVD! I enjoyed 'Full Monty' when it was shown on TV a couple

of weeks ago here and have the video at home.

DH is currently cataloging his DVD collection (he must have over a hundred and

fifty but we can use both UK and US DVDs in our machine) in preparation for the

arrival of the new TV tomorrow. Speakers were delivered and wiring done today.

I have to admit that I enjoyed Gladiator - but hadn't wanted to watch it in the

first place. I also thought the SFX in the Matrix were pretty good. We've got

lots of kiddie DVDs as you can just jump forward to a bit you haven't seen

before rather than having to fast forward.

DH likes the extra features - but to be honest I'm not fussed!

I really love the Matrix - another one of our DVDs - keanu is

actually quite yummy in it (when he is the recreated 'welcome to

the real world' bit in the leather coat)

We have a multi region player too - so much more useful than

european only.

Dh likes the special features too - must be a boy thing!

Our many played favourites:

Matrix, Airforce One, Fifth Element, Toy Story and Toy story 2,

Twister and all the Connery and Pierce Brosnan bond

movies!

I didn't mind the violence that much, it was the really, really poor plot

which I hated. DH loves the film though & I don't mind looking at

Crowe if I really have to ;-)

DH finally got round to getting the DVD of Gladiator yesterday (he's a

Ridley fan) so we sat and watched it last night. has anyone else seen

it? I was brought up on a diet of horrible horror films courtesy of my older

brother, but even i found the violence hard to stomach - it really is a real

slasher movie. Have to agree with Crowe's oscar - he is brilliant in

it.

Hmm.. I am really hoping that DH doesn't remember how much he likes 'The

Fifth Element' I don't think I could bear to watch it again - I've seen it

far too often.

We have conversations in the evening which start with him asking me to pick a

film, so I go through all the films I'd like to watch and he objects to them

so in the end we end up watching something he wants to watch, then he gets

huffy with me if I watch a bit and then go and do email. Then he tells me

its my fault because I can't reach a decision! Pah!

The film *I* have watched most from our collection is 'Armageddon' sloppy

sentimental claptrap - but very watchable!! Evita is still in her cling wrap

as DH doesn't want to see it (its a 'she dies in the end - chick flick' in

his opinion).

I just love it - must have watched it about 35 times! it still makes

me laugh - although I cringe at the costume cutting a bit. I was

complaining about the make up on the Diva to my old flat mate

(who is a special effects artist) and he admitted that he had done

some of it - oops!

Are you sure we aren't married to the same bloke? We shall

have to sit them next to each other at the ball so they can bore

each other with hifi speaker talk!!

LOL! Haven't got Armegeddon - sounds like a Dh kind of thing.

Titanic has to be a good chick flick - funnily enough DH loves

Thelma and Louise!

Before I saw it I thought it was a 'boy' film - but it has some really good

lines in it - Steve Buscemi is fantastic in it. I want to get 'Top Gun' to

add to my Tom Cruise collection but DH isn't keen.

Gladiator *was* violent but it needed to be. I found it very very

moving and Crowe brilliant.

Last night we watched a really really lovely family DVD movie, a (12)

certificate; it was called " Paying it forward " with the little boy

who played in " sixth sense " . Oh it was gorgeous, you must see it.

I watched it with DH and his parents who were staying, and at one

point I had to leave the room as I thought I'd be sick. I would never

have chosen it to watch myself and I found it deeply disturbing, to

think human life really was so cheap......

However *the company* insisted I came back in, and made out I was

being melodramatic, which I did otherwise the issue might have been

blown out of proportion, but watched it with my stomach in knots. It

was a very powerful film but very gory.

One that I just cannot bring myself to watch is " Saving Private "

even though we have it on DVD, and I love Tom Hanks! I just think it

would be too harrowing.

Other than that I liked " Being Malkovitch " & " American Beauty " &

the boys love " Dinosaur " , most of the other DVDs we have are still

unopened as they are of the high-tech/violent and car chase variety

which doesn't interest me particularly (I'd rather watch Graham Norton

on a Friday night) so DH saves them for the rare occasion I'm not in!

Saving Private was *extremely gory* but it achieved one thing;

it cured DH of his love of war films because he meant the old

fashioned kind of war film where everyone dies tidily and there's no

blood. This dvd brought home to him the true horrors of war for the

first time.

I love dvds, even though the only way we watch them at the moment is

on the computer, we don't have a dedicated dvd player. We brought my

laptop to Israel so we are watching dvds on that. They certainly

take up less storage space too! My main appreciation of them (besides

being able to jump to a specific spot, is the fantastic quality of

picture and sound.

Personally I thought Gladiator was brilliant and not particularly

gory. I was also facinated by the fact that at some point Oliver

became computer generated - kept trying to spot the join!

Me too! But did anyone ever see that old B&W classic bad horror

movie (or was it sci-fi?) " Plan 9 from Outer Space " , filmed in

someone's back garden using dustbins as aliens, with a budget of

about 9p? I love that film, it's just soooo bad! One of the actors

(Bella Luigi or something) died half way through that one too, and

not having computers in those days, they just put in another actor

and hoped no one would notice the difference!
