Guest guest
This is what Andy told me when I asked him. If using Allergy Research adrenal cortex: Begin with one cap in the am. See how it goes. When you begin to notice that it's not working towards lunch or afternoon, then add a second cap around that time. Wait a bit more, see how you feel. If you still are not feeling better, you can slowly add more caps until you do. Some people require one cap a day, some need 4-6. This depends on the level of fatigue you have. (You can do a saliva test if you don't know) I was told by many that weaning down is not necessary, but I tend to go with common sense and we wean down by decreasing the dose by one cap every three or four days. The consensus is that adrenal cortex does not contain cortisone..unless you are using Isocort. So you do not have to be as careful with it. My 5yr old uses 1/4 cap once a day, I use 2 caps in the am, my dd uses two caps in the am and one in the pm. At times of real stress we have had her up to three am and two pm with no ill effects. You'll have to base your dose on how you feel. > > Hi, > > I've scoured this group and onibasu, but can't seem to find any > " consensus " or unofficially official guidelines on how to take adrenal > cortex extract. I.e. how quickly to taper up, how high to go (I'm > sure this varies between people) and how to taper off of ACE. > > Does anyone know of any unofficial guideposts? >

I emailed Nutricology/Allergy Research about this a couple months ago, and the response was this: " Thank you for your inquiry. Our Adrenal Cortex capsules contain glandular substance from adrenal cortex, but it is not standardized for hormone content, nor do we make any claims for hormone content. It is a nutritional supplement intended for glandular support, not hormone replacement. " I don't know what to make of it to be honest, except that maybe they are better off legally not knowing the actual hormone content. If their product does have cortisol in it, I feel that it's a very small amount (if any) based on my experience, but I've never tried Isocort for comparison. On a related note, Isocort is considered to have 1mg-2mg (by people who have tried Isocort and HC) rather than their claimed 2.5mg. I have heard that Isocort contains some cortisol, but don't know how much. According the stopthethyroidmadness, the company claims that each tablet contains 2.5 mg cortisol, but user experience shows that the tablets likely contain less. > I don't know what to make of it to be honest, except that maybe they > are better off legally not knowing the actual hormone content.
