I don't believe TV is all bad but what drives me insane are the people

that have it on as " wallpaper " all day every day!! We went to another

couple's house for a meal once and they lived in a one-bed starter

home so there was only one room downstairs. The TV was on when we got

there and was not turned off which I thought was a bit rude as it was

only something crummy like the Royal Variety performance on. They

then kept it on throughout the meal AND kept breaking off what they

were saying and turning round to watch! DH and I were amazed

(needless to say we did not go again!). Am I old-fashioned? Maybe it

comes from not having a good (colour) TV set at home until I was 14?

I would find it rude if someone had the tv on all the time I was there for a

dinner etc.. (slightly different in a afternoon where you are trying to get

bored kids to give you 5 mins peace ) but then I am the kind of person who

will say something like shell we turn this off I can't really hear what you say

etc.. Don't think you are old-fashioned just that those people had bad

manners.

My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you

start.

So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake.

I feel better already.

Well I and the children have survived three months or so now without

the TV(although I'm quite sure they get to watch plenty at their

dad's at the weekends)For a few years now I have felt a sort of

aversion to the television even though it's not been long since I

actually stopped watching it.I just felt that it was used as an

excuse not to talk......my ex could not actually be in a room with a

television without switching it on so I guess that is a lot to do

with it.Anyway I'm not totally anti and the children will have the

video to watch but other than that I intend to stay pretty much telly

free(except the odd video night)Any way who has time for telly when

they spend so long on the pc?!!!!!!!!! ;0)

- same here (may be I was 10). Also, when we first got a TV, I was never

allowed to watch ITV - did anyone else have this? - any idea why?

I'm just lurking at the moment, but this thread reminds me of the

first time my big sister came to visit me in my new (first) flat. We

had just moved in and had just graduated so were poor and did not

have a TV...

Guess what - she brought one - !

She turned up with boyfriend in tow, hunking a huge telly all the way

up the stairs to the fifth floor (and this was before the days of

snappy little tellies - this was the real, big, thing!).

Perhaps I should have known already then that something was wrong

with our relationship... but I adored her; and it took 10 years more

before I said stop and we fell out. I can see the funny side now

though... but it is about priorities and respect for other people

isn't it?

Are your kidding - absolutely!!!

About 6 hours later, at 1 in the morning.

Do you think she could have lived without it at home...?!! LOL.

We were never allowed to watch ITV, and often let ourselves into the

house when we got back from school and still never watched it ! I

remember being really shocked when my older sister watched magpie one

night - we must have all been in our teens, and kept saying - but we're

not allowed to watch ITV. I can't understand why we were so law abiding

on this issue - must ask my mum what threats/insinuations re quality she

had put into our brains.

I have two friends who weren't allowed to watch ITV, was deemed too common

and non-educational!
