Bruce and others..

As I recall, Bruce mentioned a "national" company for oxygen supplies. Which one seems best ? I think the issue of getting oxygen thru Medicare in different cities when one travels is important. I was dealing with a local here but hope I"ll be traveling in the future.Summer is coming and maybe a trip.

Thanks and blessings to you all.

Andy...greetings! I use Lincare and they provide trips by contacting other Lincare providers where ever I'm going.

What O2 provider do you now have?

Contact them and they will give you information on traveling.

I went to Spokane WA and when I arrived the concentrator and other things were sitting there waiting for me. It was picked up after we checked out.

Air travel is more complicated but always contact the Airline customer service with O2 questions and needs.

We're getting some sun now, here in Oregon and it's wonderful. I opened the front door this morning and the air actually smelled SWEET. Ahhhhhh.

You are right. I can just google respiratory/oxygen vendors in the cities and see what shows up with regard to national providers. I'm planning on driving so it will just take some advance work. Thanks again.

AndyWhichever I chose, I would go to the office that would be serving youand talk directly with the manager about your current and anticipatedneeds, expectations, and how they would serve you. While I agree with MB that it does depend on the local management, Ialso have to say that on an overall national basis Lincare does farebetter than Apria. I'm basing this on many forums as well as the BBBreporting on both. Seems Lincare has found it more beneficial on thewhole to bribe doctors than to shortchange patients (yes, they wererequired to pay $12 Million in fines). That said we do have members inspecific locations who get good service from Apria and members with bothgood and bad from Lincare. You might also check where you're likely to go as there are others withbroad coverage, but not national. I guess my question is how did you manage only 2 stops in 17 days. Did you have several extra tanks or were using only a couple of ltrs per day.? I assume you were driving.

Thanks again,

AndyThere is very little of the country where you wouldn't be near an Apriaor a Lincare. Now, if you use a local provider most of them do belong to associationswith local providers throughout the country. You can then use those foroxygen when traveling. The only problem is you'll have to pay. I waswith a local provider when I made a 17 day trip last year and had to payfor refills of my reservoir twice at $50 each time.> > >> > > I got a call from the Sleep doctor and I have SEVERE sleep apnea.I> > am going in next Wednesday (4/29) for the CPAP titration todetermine> > what level of oxygen I will need and to be fitted with the CPAPmask.> > And to think that no one thought to test me before this!! Thanks for the answer.I forgot that you had a van. Also, I'm surprised that you could accumulate that much oxygen thru your supplier. I cant imagine me doing anything like that. My car travel plans are driving 6-8 hours a day between major cities on a trip that would only total 3 days at a time. Like Chicago to Florida or Columbus to Boston. Does everyone in this group already know about NHOPA ( home oxygen web site)? It has decent stuff on oxygen and air travel. Enjoy the day, friends. Bless you all.

AndyI took a 50 pound reservoir with me, in my van. While driving most ofthe day, I didn't need oxygen. Refilled portable from the reservoir.Took the reservoir in at night to the hotels or relatives houses.Started with it full so used about 150 pounds of oxygen on the trip orjust over 51,000 liters which would be an average of just over 2 lpm, balanced by zero when driving versus 3-4 when active.> > > >> > > > I got a call from the Sleep doctor and I have SEVERE sleepapnea.> I> > > am going in next Wednesday (4/29) for the CPAP titration to> determine> > > what level of oxygen I will need and to be fitted with the CPAP> mask.> > > And to think that no one thought to test me before this!! Andy,

Bruce will surely answer you in a bit but I just thought I'd make sure it's clear that Bruce uses liquid O2. So he didn't have to accumulate say dozens of compressed air tanks. He merely had to have his 50 pound liquid O2 resevoir filled at home and then refilled at a supplier he located on his trip. It actually is a much less cumbersome way to do a road trip than what I do which is take a concentrator and tanks with me.

JoyceNo, I don't own the reservoir currently in my van. It is supplied byLincare. However, if you want to purchase a reservoir, they areavailable from many used and reconditioning companies as well as on ebayand craigslist at times. The prices new for Caire Liberator 10's and20's (25 lb and 50 lb) are approximately $1200-1500. Used ones typicallyrun $400-700, sometimes slightly less.> > > >> > > > I got a call from the Sleep doctor and I have SEVERE sleepapnea.> I> >
