More weirdness from my doctors

Beth, Sher or whoever I have a serious concern about my GI doc. It didn't really hit me until today what he said yesterday. When he was telling me about the surgery and the surgeon he told me if I wanted the surgery not to mention my bowel problems, weight loss or the fact I have trouble eating. He also said "it would probably best if you didn't mention that you are anti-depressants. I was under the impression that you were supposed to tell your surgeon everything especially any meds you take but maybe since they might do it under twilight sleep it doesn't matter. Anyway the GI doc doesn't think the surgeon will operate if he knows I have been really sick with my intestines for the past 13 weeks and have lost over 45 pounds in that time. Does any of this sound right to you? I have always trusted Dr. Craig but after yesterday I am having serious doubts. When I told him about not being able to have regular bowel movements he said "cause you don't eat. Eat then you'll then your bowels will move." When I told him how sick and in pain I get when I eat.... HE SHRUGGED! "One thing at a time. Let's get your lungs taken care of then if you still have a problem come back and we will talk about it then." WHAT!!!!!! Feed back from whoever please and yes I can sure pick 'em when it comes to doctors.

Sunny,

OK I'm going to be really blunt here so pardon me in advance.

Do not under any circumstances conceal any medical information from the doctor is is going to be doing your lung biopsy. (I'm assuming that's the surgery you're talking about.) You need to tell the surgeon, along with the anesthesiologist when you talk to him/her everything about your medications and your medical history. Do not conceal anything.

If you understood him correctly and this is what he meant to say, it's the worst piece of advice I've ever heard. It's so bad it could endanger your life if you followed it.

I don't shock easily but a doctor encouraging you to conceal medical information from another doctor is just stunning.

I have to agree with the others. This doctor is going to be preforming surgery.

Regardless of how he puts you under, I can't imagine concealing info from him.

I'd have serious concerns with any doctor that wanted me to hide info from a

doctor that was operating on me. If something seems or feels wrong, it probably

is!

Beth, I am talking about the stomach surgery for the Aspiration. Once I thought it over I was shocked too. I am going to tell the surgeon everything and if he is not comfortable doing the surgery until my intestine straighten out then so be it. The scariest thing to me is him telling me not to tell the surgeon that I am on Prozac and Haldol. Both can suppress your respiration, I think so that is information they should most definitely have. I think I just get referred from one bad doctor to another. Is there a bad doctor club? They all take Fridays off so that must be their meeting day when they get together and decide all the weird things they are going to tell patients then the laugh and laugh. I am considering, since Rich is my witness, reporting this doctor to the AMA. I am that upset over his advice. They still don't know why my bowels are blocking and we all no surgery can cause a backup so it seems to me he is endangering my life by telling me withhold this information. What do you think?

Do not under any circumstances conceal any medical information from the doctor is is going to be doing your lung biopsy. (I'm assuming that's the surgery you're talking about.) You need to tell the surgeon, along with the anesthesiologist when you talk to him/her everything about your medications and your medical history. Do not conceal anything.

If you understood him correctly and this is what he meant to say, it's the worst piece of advice I've ever heard. It's so bad it could endanger your life if you followed it.

I don't shock easily but a doctor encouraging you to conceal medical information from another doctor is just stunning.

Beth,

The really sad thing is that prior to my going on the antidepressants this GI doc treated me with respect, listened to my concerns and I always left feeling like I was in good hands. As soon as I was prescribed the prozac and haldol he became totally different. I have had a hard time accepting that I need them but after seeing how much good they have done me I finally get it. He just doesn't seem to understand that because of chronic pain and just too many diseases hitting me over four years I need the meds. I feel like he thinks I am some kind of nut because of the meds. Chronic pain from Lupis/Sjogrens/Arthritis, and I am talking every day of my life for four years, would depress anyone. So I have nothing to be ashamed of or hide. No matter what he thinks. It is sad that we have to be so careful what doctor we trust and I am beginning to think that Spokane is not the best place for me. I am going to get referrals to Kootnaei Medical Center and if that doesn't feel comfortable I am going to find out what it would take to go to the teaching hospital in Seattle. I really worry that I will follow the wrong doctor's advice and it will cost me my life. Rich is furious and thinks the same thing I do about GI doc and the meds. Anyway appreciate the advice and support. I knew he was wrong but I always feel uncertain when it comes to disagreeing with a doctor but I am getting braver and bolder each day.

It was almost worth being made to feel like a nut by a GI I trusted. My wonderful hubby woke me up with Daffodils (my favorite) and my favorite drink, Dr. Pepper just to show his love and respect for me. You gotta love and keep a man like that. I am most blessed this day to have him and all of you. Bad days will come and go but he and the rest of you will always be there everyday.

Sunny....I'm reading your posts and feel badly that you are going through so much.

Be careful of prozac/haldol. With some people it can effect cognitive processes rather severely.

The confusion I see here is that you don't appear to have a doc you can discuss your med problems with and none of us here can give medical advice beyond what has worked or not worked for us.

Ask your pharmacist about these two drugs and what you need to watch for in taking both of them....or even how compatible with any other meds you take.

As I told you, I've lived with chronic pain for dozens of years...and always w/side effects from meds.

I really understand the depression that comes from multiple meds and numerous med problems all at the same time. So do most of us on the board.

Your med history appears so tangled that you must be under tremendous stress trying to untangle it.

I'm confused, why would Spokane not be a good place for you?

Sunny, I do see one thing....you really need to get care and not just continued referrals to different docs.

I'm sorry I can't be more help....

Sher, you kind of scared me in to thinking. I go to Walgreens and Wal-mart for meds and neither one knows what the other is giving me. I feel so stupid. It is frustrating trying to find a primary to help me organize all my health issues but I won't give up. There has to be someone out there that can help me and would be willing to work with me to straighten out all the meds, can and cannot do list, can and cannot eat list, sun or no sun... There are so many conflicting instructions from the various doctors that sometimes I just throw up my hands and say whatever. Thanks for your continued support and advice. Keep it coming. Sunny
