Guest guest
I should add one more thing - Just about a month ago, I went through these very thoughts because a friend of ours comitted suicide. He was married to a woman who worked with my husband. They went over to England with us, and are still there. They have 2 kids. The wife was the breadwinner of the family. Dad stayed home with the kids. They were going through a separation. His wife found him in the garage. The last time I saw him, I had a heated discusion about Bill Gates with him, and I know I said some pretty mean things to him. Oh, it just makes a person feel so horrible when they know they've done or said something to someone that wasn't too nice, and they find out later just how fragile the person really was. I have to try to remember not to do that. I'm the kind of person who speaks her mind. I often put my foot in my mouth. I'm so self centered! I have to start thinking about other people's feelings. sad news Don't know why I feel compeled to tell you this, especially since I haven't posted anything in weeks. I have been reading just about everything, though. Here goes anyway - The receptionist at my physical therapist went kayaking a week ago in a local lake (there's lots around me) and has dissapeared. They are still searching the lake for her. She apparently has comitted suicide. She came from an horrible family, and the fact that her daughter wouldn't let her see her new baby - a first granddaughter - put her over the edge. She called everyone at work the night before telling them she wouldn't be at work the next day, borrowed a friends kayake, and hasn't been seen since. The kayake was in the lake empty, and her car is still parked at her friend's house. I found all this out from my daughter's doctor yesterday. I heard the story of it from my kids, but thought it was just a rumor. You know how kids tell stories. And sure enough, I found the story on my computer. (Haven't been reading the local news much lately) This is so devistating to me. She wasn't a friend, but I had many talks with her. I was always complaining about my pain problems to her. If I had only known about her pain, I wouldn't have complained to her. It was all just me, me, me. It amazes me that as we go about our daily lives, and come in contact with different people, that we don't have any clue as to what's going on in their lives. We should all try to remember this when we come across a rude or unfriendly person. We really don't know why they are acting the way they are, and it could be something terrible. This woman was never rude (she did always seem like she'd rather be somwhere else), but I think you know what I mean. Thanks for reading. It just makes me feel better to write stuff down when it's bothering me. Big Hugs, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ceda/ a..

Guest guest
Dear , I'm so glad you are back, it's been a long time since we've heard from you. I haven't been able to be on much either because of all the stuff going on at home and my continuing stuff. I don't know what compelled you to tell us about the woman that committed suicide. But just feel like you must have a deep love for a person you knew causally and the ultimate decision and action she took came as a shock to you. Please don't ever think or even relate this to yourself if subconsciously you think this could happen to you. Just a stupid thought of mine. We're all always here! Maybe it was just away to get back in touch with us. You can't do " what if " You had known or talked to this person, she put out the signal closest to the people she knew and they didn't pick up on it. I'm so sorry it makes you feel bad but it is good to talk about it! Let me know how you all are doing. Guest guest
This is a very hard thing for me to find out as I'm sure it is for all of us. There is no one who thought more carefully about transplant. Sherry weighed her options, researched, educated herself, prayed about it and made her decision to go for it. Unfortunately the outcome was the opposite of what she and her family wished for. Though I'd rather have her here with us, I'm confident that she is gone to a place where she doesn't have to worry about her lungs anymore. Guest guest
MB I do so hope all her family knew and understood and was comfortable with her decision. We do sometimes overlook the fact that regardless of the one year success rates, whether 75% or 80%, that leaves a very significant risk. My mother once had a surgery that she and all of us knew going in had a 20% probability of not surviving the surgery (quadruple heart bypass in 1969). Fortunately, we all knew it was the right choice for her regardless. I hope they continue to improve the process for all of you who are potential candidates. Sherry did understand and found a hospital she was comfortable with and I so hope her family can picture her even now saying that she's glad she went for it even if it didn't work out. It's still very hard to digest as I've known those who died post-transplant but she's the first person I've personally known to die during the transplant. I know she's fine now, but just hope her family knows that as well and realizes a strong woman did what she felt she had to do. > > This is a very hard thing for me to find out as I'm sure it is for all of us. Guest guest
Hi Air Family, so sorry to read this. I read Sherry's notice, she was born and raised about an hour away from me in Chicagoland. I've been away from the board for a few days as my Mom is still, or back in, the hospital. There was emergency back surgery last Wednesday, as compression fractures and tumors were seen on MRI. Pathology shows Adeno Carcinoma, lung cancer, tumors at mid and lower spine, the larger tumor at L3, growing out of the bone. Thanks to all I've e-mailed and chatted with already. I'll be around, thanks, Suzi.
