Guest guest
Being off the treadmill for almost 2 weeks makes it very difficult to get started again. UGH! I did it today though....slower than normal and shorter than normal but I made a start and that's what matters. I also went to visit my buddy Virginia in her assisted living facility. I was asked to leave by the director. They mistakenly believe I'm contagious.... basically forever. I came home, gathered my documentation, including my discharge instructions from Duke telling me to self-isolate till 5/27/09. I then made a call to my contact in the Durham County Dept of Health who told me to call her if I had any questions. She very kindly called the director at Spring Arbor to correct their mis-information. Then I faxed all my documentation to them and they grudgingly are going to allow me to visit. Honestly I don't blame her for being cautious. What I do find immensely frustrating is that she is a health care professional, director of an assisted living facility and has not gone to the least effort to educate herself. Ignorance in the general population is one thing, professional ignorance is infuriating. So that was my day. Tomorrow I'm going for a ride to get our new dog. I can't wait to get him home and my dad especially is looking forward to having a little friend around the house. Guest guest
Beth So excited for you getting your dog. I know starting back on the treadmill is tough but you did it. As to the assisted living center, I share your feelings. I would have asked you detailed questions, but when you gave me the information, I would have felt ok. However, they're so scared of liability that even with good information they are hesitant. Of course, also proves they don't know you as you are knowledgeable and would never do anything to jeopardize anyone. You even went beyond the letter of your isolation. I'm going to use this to remind everyone again. Beth is back up and around and even on the treadmill. Why? Because she got treatment quickly. Thats the key whether it's swine flu, strep throat or any virus or infection. Even if its something thats not treated directly the potential for complications can be addressed. If you're ever in doubt about whether you need to get to a dcctor or ER, you need to. Much better to err on the side of caution. I committed long ago that this disease is going to have to run its full course on me. I'm determined to do everything I can to not let complications along the way lead to an even more premature death. We've lost members to complications that we'll never know had they gotten medical help two days earlier might there have been a different outcome, because they weren't yet very advanced with the disease. > > Being off the treadmill for almost 2 weeks makes it very difficult to get started again. Guest guest
Hi Beth, Hope you are feeling alot better! I agree about restarting treadmill and other forms of exercise. I had a bad sinus infection for a week and when I went back to using the treadmill and my pflex for the lungs it was not at the point I left it. It takes alot to restart without feeling like you lost so much gain but slowly its coming back. I move around more now which makes it alot easier to get back. My son just broke his shoulder and hip at the Dunes last Saturday and is bedridden for 12 weeks . I have to take care of all his needs and it seem like i just get done with one chore that I hear "Mom can you come here " so that leads into something else. I don't mind because the outcome could have been worse! I might have a lung problem when I pile his and his brothers four wheels and motorcycles into a pile and set them on fire. He was my good rider and it happened to him when the sand was covering a dip and he could't see it. Oh well all a part of being Mom.
