M Solomonchik, re: anti-depressants,

I used celexa a year ago due to menopausal symptoms, and it helped me

not be so extremely cranky. I stopped when I felt like I was doing

ok.

Then after my Graves' diagnosis, my endo presribed it again. I was a

hyper mess and had symptoms of depression (pretty much just stayed in

bed, cried alot, anxious about finances since I had also just quit my

job, etc...but those also all go along with Graves). I stopped a

couple weeks after starting up with it because I didn't like the idea

of taking anti-depressants and there is controversy about using

them. But then I started to feel bad again, and I was feeling like a

terrible mother and wife. I guess I decided that it was helping me.

I balanced feeling better/calmer home life with any potential

problems with them and feeling better won. My endo even said that

she doesn't want me on them past February. I know I'll need to wean

my self on slowly.

I'm also seeing an MD who prescribes homeopathic remedies, and she

felt I needed to focus on my Graves symptoms before focusing on

stopping the celexa. She has other methods she uses for treating

depression, but felt that I needed to deal with one issue at a time.

.

diagnosed 8/22/02; on PTU and homeopathic/herbal remedies
