Today I had a small can of prune juice and that moved a lot and then of

What am I doing wrong?

Are you drinking water to keep the moisture in the colon??? Poor

thing...there just seems to be no happy medium once they mess with the colon...

Thanks Jolene. I think I am getting stressed out because of the sale of my

house, travelling to Washington by car next week and then flying to Albuquerque

the following weekend for a visit.

Say did we lose Ernie here???? I sure hope not.

Re: Ok, expert friends..talk to me

Oh Karima my heart goes out to you. Just can't find a happy medium here.

I wish I could help.

Do you still have the diarrhea? if you moved good, then I would go back

to the regimen but adjust it somewhat so you don't get so constipated.

Just adjust it a tad and see how that goes. You aren't doing anything

wrong, you just have to try to be patient and find the regimen that

works for

you. Take care and God Bless and some big hugs Jolene

It could be from serveral things and most likely a

combination of several. The disease itself,

chemo, other meds, poor appetite, reduced fluid intake,

less exercise, etc. The fiber agents(sounds like

you're already taking that)help some people. One

suggestion you may want to try is taking a stool

softener (NOT a laxative). A softener will do just

that, soften the stool so it is easier to pass. A

laxative also stimulates bowel action and can cause

severe cramping and also create a dependency. Docusate

calcium(has several brand names) is a good one that

you can buy over the counter and if you buy a

generic(just check the label or ask your pharmacist,

for docusate calcium without other active ingredients)

it is usually very inexpensive also.

Hi ,

Thanks for your note. I was in the drugstore today looking for just a stool

softener but they all said laxative which I didn't want a steady diet of. I am

amazed at how the prune juice just flowed through taking the rest of the detris

with it.

Thanks again.

The most common brand name for docusate calcium is

surfak but the brand name costs about 3 to 4 times as

much so I always buy generic. Just read the active

ingredient label, forget whatever else is on the label

for advertising purposes. I get dizzy looking at all

the ad labels!

I have built up great resistance to " talking to the doctors " ...I suppose I will

get over it. Now MOM does what? I have not had the experience in the last 20

years of MOM; I guess that is because I rarely had probs in that area. It is so

confusing to live your life with the products you have no experience with like

fiber bulk (which i always got from veggies and then Immodium (when i never had

diarrhea).

So can I get one more back from you..........pweeze?

I take the Cherry flavor and it is not bad at all. I was keeping it in fridge

and thought that it made it taste better but all this time I had not read the

bottle that said keep at room temp. Now I do but it seems to work fine when I

did. Believe me it has worked find all day:)

It is plain old Milk of Magnesia. I don't know that it prevents diarrhea but it

is the only thing I can take to keep me cleaned out very gently. I don't even

take a whole dose of it. Because my stricture is so tight I have a hard time

going and don't dare take a laxative as it can't get out the small opening and

makes me very ill. If I have a Dr appt I take immodium so I don't go and can

make the appt. I can only pass small amounts at a time so I make many trips to

bathroom but hardly ever diarrhea. After my surgery two years ago I had constant

diarrhea for long time and went to bathroom about every half hour day and night.

It took awhile for actual stools to start forming. I also had infection so that

may have been part of the problem. I am scared of this surgery Monday but

thought at least it would solve my bathroom problem so I could go out of the

house eventually without worrying. Well surgeon took that thought away. He said

because he is going to have to take more rectum I will still be going frequent

small amounts but it will be easier.

Because the laxatives make me so sick I will start on clear liquid diet Friday

and just one oz of the fleet every morning for three days. Actually I am going

to start Thursday and take just half of oz to see if it is going to really make

me sick. As each day passes I get more nervous. I know it is important to be

cleaned out good. That may be what caused my infection last time as he said I

was not as I had a blockage and also a abscess in colon. I have diviticulitis

bad but it has never bothered me.

Oh Hil, I sure feel your stress and am praying for you. I was terrified of my

takedown and it turned out okay. When you consider the alternative to all of

the suffering...it makes it easier (for me anyway). As my best friend says " I'm

just glad you are alive "
