I agree with this - even though my DDs' birthdays are a fortnight

apart, it was still nice for DD2 to have some new clothes of her own!

Yes, I felt that too. It seemed extravagant for *us* to buy them, so

it was particularly nice to get presents of clothes. (I do count

snazzy nappies as clothes though Phyllis :-))

Mind you, a lot of people I know don't give presents at all for

second babies (one of my friends said " It only encourages them if you

do that " (as if we would think " Oh if we're going to get another

woolly hat we'll have another baby " )

Some of the nicest things were from local NCT people I am pleased to

say - not expensive, but very much appreciated - a plant, baby socks,

cake, apple pies, a book for DS1...

The best thing anyone could give me when I had DS2 at home

was to take DS1 out for a treat - or just do 1/2 hours worth of

hoovering - or a hot meal ready made!

I now do this for any new mum I know - or at least give her a load

of cakes wrapped up ready to be frozen. I am currently doing a

load of frozen meals for a couple of mums expecting in the next

week. Make sure they are labelled with date you have made

them and how to defrost and cook them.
