I have been taking it two or three times per day. If I take a 3rd dose, I try to do it by 4 pm. I also have some Thorne brand 50mg on hand, and have taken as much as 900mg of ACE in total a few days. For me, that seemed like too much for an ongoing basis, but seems fine once in awhile. (Note, my adrenals are in bad shape and I also take HC.) For the Thorne ACE 50mg, I have heard Andy say 3-4 caps 3X/day in the past. I have also heard him say that ACE is *fairly innocuous*. So I think you just have to experiment, and find out what dose is best for you.--------Jackie Is there any reason to take more in the morning and less in afternoon? ----------Your natural cortisol rhythm is to be highest in the morning and drop as the day goes on, so that would be one reason to do this.--------Jackie Should I take an equal ammount each time or 2 in the morning and 1 at noon? -------------I think you just might need to experiment with this, and see what works best for you. So far I have been taking equal amounts. I should try 2 in the morning, and see how it feels. Otherwise, I do like taking some in the afternoon, because I am prone to that afternoon crash, common with adrenal fatigue.--------Jackie What are the expected effects of taking this? I haven't really noticed anything per se. ---------It has perked me up and made me feel more stimulated, and not needing extra HC. I have also woken up easier in the morning, and don't seem to need as much sleep. It definitely seems to do something different than the HC, at least for me. I'm hoping to be able to lower my dose of HC, after using this long enough.--------Jackie Will it just unoticably over time support and help the adrenals or will it start having noticable effects immediately? ----------Not sure if its different for different people, and may be different because I am also taking HC, but it does make me feel better. If you feel nothing, then maybe you need more, especially if you're not taking anything else for your adrenals.-----Jackie Is it bad to take ACE if you suspect you may have high cortisol levels? ----------This I'm not 100% sure of, but I think ACE might be ok to take with high cortisol levels, because it is supporting the adrenals, not replacing the cortisol it takes. Have you done a 4x/day saliva cortisol test, and are you high all day, or just at night? My cortisol is low all day, so I don't have this problem.------Jackie
Guest guest
> > I just recently started taking Nutricology/Allergy Research Group > brand ACE/Adrenal Cortex in 250 mg dose. > Hi. I take the Nutricology ACE as well. I take one in the morning about 7AM, one at lunch time and about 1/4-1/3 right before bed. When I am exceptionally fatigued at work, I also take 1/2-1 around 2:30-4:00PM. My energy has been improving so I don't take this extra dose anymore. Also, as I have been improving, I have reduced the amount I take just before bedtime. I think a lot of it should be based on how you feel. My worst time was always mid-afternoon from 3-4PM, hence my extra dose then. I also did the 4 times a day cortisol test, and used that as reference. The bedtime dose was recommended in " Adrenal Fatigue - The 21st Century Syndrome " , a pretty good and easy to read book on adrenal fatigue. It is recommended for certain sleep issues. It has really helped me out in that department! -Ed

I read > somewhere not to take any after noon, but also saw some people taking > 3 times per day? I started taking ACE in December but it caused me very strange symptoms of all over body itchiness and all round feeling weird and strange. So much so that I had to stop taking it. I tried twice, but on each occasion after 3 days these symptoms happened, then disappeared 1 day later when I stopped. I started on 100mg per day and was upto 200mg within 2 days. Dosing in the evenings made me unable to sleep at night. I have since been to see an Adrenal/Thyroid expert, a Dr Peatfield, based in England. He told me the dosage and timings I was doing where wrong and that must be the reason for the unusual symptoms. I took the Thorne Research product of " adrenal cortex " 50mg per cap. He told me dosage should be as follows: 50mg for 7-10 days, then increase to 100mg for 7-10 days, then 150mg … etc…upto a target dosage of 200mg When I dosed myself I was up at 200mg within 3 days my body could not cope with all the extra thyroid hormones. i.e. start on a low dosage and slowly build up the dosage…..sound familiar? LOL Obviously the target dosage of 200mg is specific to me, but I though I should share the dosing schedule as that seems important. Since I am sensitive to ACE I started on 25mg per day, just to be sure. At the moment I am upto 150mg per day, all taken in the morning. My Cortisol levels are low all throughout the day. I am feeling the effects, so I will continue working up my dose 1 week at a time. I just finished a round of DMSA and was a good round and i feel the ACE helped supported me. Hi richard- I take ACE (Genestra Brand- Canadian)165 mg per tablet. I take 1 in the morning, 2 at lunch, and 1/2 at dinner. When I take a full one at dinner I wake up at 3 am, ready for the day....no fail I have been playing with dosage and added a 1/2 in the morning. My saliva test show okay morning but then my cortisol drops 2x as fast as it should....I think that is it. Anyway, overtime I have found it has helped. I feel the effect is cummulative. Good luck - great question - I have struggled with this too. Colette

Guest guest
This Canadian site carries Genestra and Thorne adrenal gland products: http://www.yourethecure.com/ You shouldn't have any problems importing ACE from the US. Health Canada said that adrenal glands are permissible as a natural health product in Feb 2007. Customs has opened my packages containing ACE before and after that and never confiscated it. I live in Toronto. Jay > > > > > > I take ACE (Genestra Brand- Canadian)165 mg per tablet. > > > > > > Hi Colette, > > Where do you order this ACE from. Guest guest
With all this talk of adrenals, hydrocortisone and ACE, I have to ask a couple of quick questions (and for all I know, I may have asked months ago!): I'm still reading AI and have finished a lot of reading on adrenal insufficiency. I suspect this is a problem for me, though I don't know. I want to do the test asap so I can at least try to work on this issue relatively soon (I'm about 3/4 done with my reading). From what I understand, it can take a long time to even feel a difference with adrenals and so many of you have said it's vital to take care of adrenals first. Would that mean that I wouldn't be able to start chelation for many months or more? And I was under the impression that taking meds for adrenals is such a serious thing that Andy states you have to wear a medic alert bracelet and have some kind of stuff for injections available? It sounds way too complex and over my head to deal with. I want and need simple, basic facts so I can get started on the adrenals. Am I remembering correctly that the saliva test can be done at home? Was it Doctors Data or something like that? I can't remember now. Thanks for any help with understanding this. : Donna

Hi Donna, If you get on the right support the effects can be immediate. Healing the adrenals takes some time, but feeling better through supporting them can be within the order of days, especially with Hydrocortisone. The true rewards are usually felt about 5 days after finding your right dose. I usually advise that people take their temperatures and when they stabalise they have found the right dose of adrenals support. HC helps rest the adrenals and ACE helps repair the adrenals, so I think both should be used. >Would that mean that I wouldn't be able to start chelation for many months >or more? Not really. But it is good advice to get on adrenal support first. It will save you a lot of problems. > And I was under the impression that taking meds for adrenals is such a > serious thing that Andy states you have to wear a medic alert bracelet and > have some > kind of stuff for injections available? I don't think this is accurate, or maybe it is a little out of context. As long as you stick under 20mg per day indivded doses at the correct intervals you are safe. Of course the more serious the problem the bigger the precautions. Stay at the lowest dose you feel good/functional on. >>> It sounds way too complex and over my head to deal with. I want and >>> need simple, basic facts so I can get started on the adrenals. See if this helps you: http://www.livingnetwork.co.za/healingnetwork/adrenals_thyroid.html >>> Am I remembering correctly that the saliva test can be done at home? >>> Was it Doctors Data or something like that? I can't remember now. I prefer DiagnosTechs that you can order from Direct Labs. Others suggest Canary Club for a home test kit. You need to get the cortisol saliva test and take 4 samples. Measuring your temperatures is as important in my opinion: " Track your daily temperatures. The thyroid and the adrenals control your metabolic temperatures. Start by downloading the Metabolic temperature graph and recording page here, http://www.livingnetwork.co.za/files/temperature_chart.pdf to create easy graphs of your metabolism. This will provide vital information when you start adding supplements or other health interventions. It is also the simplest and most inexpensive way of monitoring your metabolism. Guest guest
Would that mean that I wouldn't be able to start chelation for many months or more? ---Nope, at least not in my opinion. I treat everything at the same time. I think when I was near the start of detoxing, I wasn't able to take the chelation as heavily as I can now. I would get extremely tired from chelating and feel bad. I suspect some of it was adrenal hormones. I suggest you start chelating slow until you improve enough to chelate in higher doses. > > And I was under the impression that taking meds for adrenals is such a serious thing that Andy states you have to wear a medic alert bracelet and have some kind of stuff for injections available? The risk is that on high doses, doses more than the adrenals would normally produce in a day, for a long period of time the adrenals might go to sleep and not be able to respond quickly in an emergency. On doses of 20 mg or less per day the adrenals are still doing some work every day and are not likely going to sleep. The risks were clearly explained to me by my doctor when he first prescribed cortisol for me. There is no need for anyone on adrenal cortex extract only to consider the above because ACE doesn't contain any (or maybe only a trace) cortisol so there is no risk of the adrenals going to sleep.
