Guest guest
Yeah Pam, I'm going to find a ND just as soon as I finish these few lines.....oops! I meant write them of course. Actually I'm still trying to get an endocrinologist. The latest is that the primary was supposed to call me with the name of somebody at the University who would care. His nurse called me about 3, while I was in traffic of course and gave me a number which I called. Even the person who makes appointments wasn't there. I have another bad feeling about this. The bugleweed was to address the autoimmunity. Sort of a home version of what Jody is trying to do with antithyroid drugs. I ordered the bugleweed last week when I was desperate and getting nowhere. I figured that I could treat myself about as well as the docs were, which is not at all. Now, with a little T3 in my system, I'm beginning to feel less cavalier. Having been comatose once this year, I'll pass on a second time thanks. But I still think that it's a worthwhile idea. I just don't have a clue as to what one is supposed to do with this brick of finely divided bits of greenery. In fact from the way it smells I'm kind of surprised that it even made it through the shipping. Can't you see the package handlers trying to party with bugleweed? Sorry, I didn't say that. My thyroid talking. Thanks for a great big smile. I'll keep posting on what happens next. I don't have a clue what it will be. Guest guest
Hi Laurel, Boy, we are a fine group. Val needs a 12 step program, you are over there snorting, and it sounds to me like you ought to smoke it. :-) But since you now describe it, perhaps it is meant to be made into tea ? BUT... get yourself a steady supply of the T3 you need FIRST. Because the bugleweed will not only make you feel hypo, it will also make your labs hypo...and you will not be able to find the right dose of replacement hormones. When I went off my bugleweed, I waited four full weeks to be able to get a CLEAN lab test. I am glad you understand this herb is NOT a do it yourself project. Some of the posts yesterday have me very worried about the others thinking of this herb. -Pam L - who does understand a ONE step program seems to be enough ...tee heeeeee 3 1/2 yr.Graves and TED, PTU, Remission due to education, SLOW reduction of PTU, improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the BIG picture ! Pills alone only fix symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.
Guest guest
Laurel, I am not saying it's a bad idea to try the bugleweed to lower antibodies, just that it's a bad idea doing it when you are having such problems finding a doc to monitor you correctly and give you even a minimum amount of replacement hormone! Personally, I say find an ND who is experienced with the thyroid because you will have a much better time talking them into the bugleweed/replacement hormone combo and they will help you with the dosage amount and getting the right labs on time. And they will call you back. Let me know if you need help finding someone in your area that is good, I could ask my NDs if they know someone good near you if you need the help, ok? Oh, here is an idea too - go to the armour website and search for a doc in your area who prescribes *it* since the chances of them being more open to alt stuff... then see if any of them meet your other requirements and make some appts with them if possible. Ug. I hate searching for docs, it will be so much better when you find someone good to work with - hang in there! Pam B.
Guest guest
Hey Pam, Thanks for the idea. I may be in need of a ND soon. Another fight today with the primary to get a new endo and records. The new guy is miles away and better be worth it. Of course its mid-December before an appointment is available. (haven't we been through this before?) Picked up the records needed. A bunch were missing. Went to the pharmacy to get the sacred cytomel and, of course, he had not called it in, even though he promised yesterday! Went to the car. Cried, raged, and then called them. Got put on hold (on the cell phone mind you) for ten minutes or so, had the nurse read me the lab values, raged hard enough to get a month's supply of cytomel (which the HMO then had a problem with because of the five day supply called in three days ago). I got weak. I took myself to Starbucks and got a decaf. I don't know if its water processed or not. At that point I didn't care! The interesting thing in all this is that I finally received the results of my thyroid scan of October 14th. That would be the scan that I was told was " ok. " It reveals a " small multi-nodular thyroid gland. " In fact there are several nodules noted. This is after two rounds of RAI and a couple years of hell! Maybe I need this damn gland removed after all? Maybe......... I swear this disease is a money hemorrhage! Breathe in, breathe out. Laurel aw crap! If the day wasn't rotten enough, now its snowing! ------------------------------------- > The Graves' list is intended for informational purposes only and is not intended to replace expert medical care. > Please consult your doctor before changing or trying new treatments. > ---------------------------------------- > DISCLAIMER > > Advertisments placed on this yahoo groups list do not have the endorsement of > the listowner. Guest guest
Hey Pam, Sometimes do it yourself is what we get. Ok, not a smart but sometimes desperate move. But not that desperate yet. I'll be good I promise. No bugleweed until I see the latest new endo in December. But I have to be grateful, once again, that the people on this list provide all the alternatives I've ever heard. I know what is going to be on my list of things to be thankful for. I'm going to sample that turkey and be thinking of all of you guys. The cytomel is now in hand. At least for a month. The coolest thing is that, under the influence of T3, my TSH has dropped from 3.39 to 1.62 in a matter of two weeks! I have to believe that just getting some T3 to go where it is needed, makes all the difference. That and my adorable acupuncturist and my amazing chiropractor who are helping the antibodies to drop and the toxins to go away. And a huge pile of supplements and a whole lot of talking to myself. As you say, " pills only fix symptoms, we must help out bodies to heal. " Laurel ----- ------------------------------------- > The Graves' list is intended for informational purposes only and is not intended to replace expert medical care. > Please consult your doctor before changing or trying new treatments. > ---------------------------------------- > DISCLAIMER > > Advertisments placed on this yahoo groups list do not have the endorsement of > the listowner.
