The toxicity made me unable to read a book, or follow written

instructions, for years. I think what is helping the most with that

is GABA. I take 250 mg 4x per day (can't remember if I can take

more). I also take some medications that are supposed to help slow

the loss of GABA, or something like that.

Mine is more like I stare at the page and the content doesn't go in.

Reading on the internet is easier because each post is short. If the

post is long I can't focus on it. And, of course, I forget what I

read except when I have read it 100x, which is why I finally learned a

couple of things after reading in groups for a couple of years.

Could be adrenal related. I got racing uncontrollable thoughts when I

chelated with doses that were too high. Possibly the amount of

cortisol I was taking wasn't keeping up with the stress of chelation?

Take heart, Pam. I went from avid reader to unable to understand

what

I was reading. Like , I could read, but couldn't process it.

I am happy to tell you that I can focus and understand much better

now

than when I first started chelating. For me, it took

chelation...chelation...chelation. Still a ways to go, but I can see

positive permanent progress. Another important thing for me are the

supplements. When I get lazy about taking them, I don't feel near as

well.

I'm afraid that I don't know enough about adrenals to comment, but

Thyroid, definitely, helped in my case.

Now that you mention it, yes.

Yep. Too many thoughts crowding in at once. I could focus really intensely

online, but not

reading anything at all long. I had quite an addiction to playing Civilization,

because for

some reason a computer game like that kept the crowding-in thoughts away and it

felt

good to focus on it.

That problem has gone away with more chelation. But I lost interest in TV and

still can't

really watch it comfortably, it makes me restless.

If you have adrenal symptoms, it will make a huge difference to treat them.

Huge!

-----------I can relate to alot of what the others have said. Like , I

think reading the posts are shorter and in a different format, more like

talking/communicating, and the repetition of certain topics makes it finally

sink in. It's funny she said that, because I have told my sister the exact same

thing! Another problem I had was needing bifocals, so before I got them, it

became too hard to read out of a book. Even now that I have them, I haven't had

the urge to read a book, besides referring to AI and HTI occasionally. I did

just order some new books, so I'll let you know if I'm able to focus on them or

not.-----------Jackie

I can't read. I start reading way too fast, get lost on the page and

lose interest. It feels like my brain races.

-----------I have a real problem focusing on the mail, especially anything

long, boring, legal jargon, etc. My eyes just gloss over and I can't absorb

what I'm reading. I really need to try the GABA that

mentions.-----------Jackie

----------And whoever mentioned the computer game, I have gone through spells

of that also, being addicted to a computer game, and that being the only thing I

could focus on, but not other things. To me it seemed like an escape from

reality, because I would focus on that, and not have to think about other

things. Andy mentions this as a symptom on the flyer for AI.----------Jackie

I had 11 amalgams safely removed in 2004/5. I didn't do much as far

as supplements for about 4 months, so I crashed. I have myself on a

few things (multimineral, 2 grams EFAs/day, B complex). I've

chelated with oral DMSA/ALA (15 mgs/20 mgs) according to Andy's

recommendations for about 15 rounds.

---------I hope you're taking Vit C too, and zinc and magnesium are usually

low in us mercury folks.----------Jackie

Other than reading, I feel like I can focus. I do get racing

thoughts from time to time but they are not irrational (I just think

about a lot of things at once). I also occasionally feel like I'm in

that 'flight or fight' mode (seems related to my hormone cycle). I'm

42.

-----------I'm 43 and had my fillings out in 2005, so in a similar boat as

you. Before I started adrenal support and especially before I had my amalgams

removed, anxiety would be really bad for me the week before my period, so there

was a definite relation to my cycle. Through saliva hormone testing last year,

I also found out that I was severely deficient in progesterone and low in other

hormones like testosterone and DHEA, besides cortisol, so supplementing other

hormones has helped alot with my overall sense of well being too.---------Jackie

HELP! I miss my books.

----------I miss alot of things I used to do.----------Jackie

I'm guessing adrenals?

----------Very possibly, or at least part of it. If you haven't checked

hormones, might be a good thing to do. Mine are a mess.---------Jackie
