Guest guest
Sandy - I can't suggest anything except to get your levels tested asap. Then you can make the decision (once you get the results that is, hopefully sometime THIS YEAR......) how to adjust your PTU, if at all. Do not make any changes to the PTU without testing at least the FT4. I don't know what to tell you about iodine consumption in trying to combat hypO caused by too much ATD. Maybe someone else can comment on this. Chris
Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Increasing iodine will have the same affect as reducing your ATD. This will give you incorrect lab results, and cause you to LOOK like you do not need your meds reduced. 1. Find out what day they run thyroid labs. 2. Go in one day before. 3. Before allowing them to draw your blood, ask exactly which tests they are going to do. 4. If it is not FT4 and whatever....do NOT allow them to take your blood. INSIST they get this right, and you will wait. 5. Remind them that you MUST have a copy mailed to YOU. 6. Ask when is the very soonest you can call for the results and lab ranges ( ask each time on the ranges ). 7. THEN allow them to draw your blood. Start step one first thing in the AM, in case they run thyroid labs tomorrow at noon. You will still have time to get there. You should then get results by tomorrow night possibly. Once your dose is reduced, you will feel better the first day, with improvements for three weeks. As far as the mouth sores, they were a blessing in disguise for me. If I was really busy and not getting into get my labs as soon as I should, and I became hypo, the sores appeared everytime, and the first thing I ate that made them burn, got me in for labs the next morning. Take this with a grain of uniodized salt...as we are all different. -Pam L- 3 1/2 yr.Graves and TED, PTU, Remission due to education, SLOW reduction of PTU, improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the BIG picture !
