Guest guest
Just wanted to give everyone an update on my dad's radiation treatments. he just finished one full week of daily treatments. no side effects, no problems. he says the abdominal pain have decreased. he is scheduled for 3 more weeks of radiation daily (15 mins each day), then resume avastin infusion after radation. he takes less pain medications now (yippeee). will keep everyone posted.... nickie --------------------------------- Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Guest guest
I am so glad your dad in tolerating the radiation well. Perhaps the decrease in abdoninal pain is a sign of the tumor shrinking. I am Praying for him. Guest guest
Thats great to hear, Nickie. My mom did real well with her radiation treatments, too. She actually gained weight and felt so much better than before. She did have some discomfort with slight burning the last 2 weeks but it wasn't so bad she said. Guest guest
Nickie, My mom actually has rectal cancer. Her tumor is too advanced for surgery, they used radiation with hopes that they could shrink it, we thought for surgery but it turns out they were just hoping to make her more comfortable because they figured it couldn't come out...they were right. she had radiation for 6 1/2 weeks m-f along with 5 fu. now she is on oxal, avastin, leuk. and other stuff...they big guns I guess she has 3 more treatments and then she will take a break and go on a maintenance chemo, probably 5fu. From what we gather she will continue with treatment indefinitely since she is not curable they will do this to keep it in check. So far so good though, she is finally gaining weight and feels pretty good and her cea level is now at 2.6. I hope your dad does well. What stage is he? Guest guest
Sounds like your mom is doing pretty good considering that she will have to stay on chemo. CEA 2.6 is pretty darn good. I hope mine is that good, when I go in for next blood work. Still waiting for my Onc appt. Should have had it by now. Have to call doc this morning and will have her check if it is in the computer.... Hope your mom continues to feel better. Guest guest
Thanks Jolene, I hope yours is low too. When my mom was diagn. in Nov of 2004 the surgeon said " if she lasts 6 months I will be surprised " well he was wrong, thank goodness. Goes to show you that its not all hopeless, even when the Drs. don't give you much hope.
