It's just great to see her enjoying these days. I'm sure Earl has to be

less stressed too. I certainly look in my future and when I reach her

stage want to find as much joy as she is. I'm so happy she got such a

great hospice aide as .

And Vicky is another one leading us so beautifully down that path. Their

beauty and grace in dealing with their situations is quite helpful to me

as I think ahead.

But the common factor is they have both used hospice and benefitted from

it. They also have both faced the feeling of being at death's door and

then found relief from their pain. You're right in that it's difficult

to know. Just reading what Lou writes today, you'd never believe it

was the same woman so full of despair such a short time ago. She made a

decision that has turned her life so much for the better.

The one thing I keep in mind and hope everyone here does is that while

we can't control the disease, beyond taking every preventive measure of

complications, we can maintain control over our lives. Whether it's

seeing new doctors or deciding what to do about meds or our living

arrangements or hospice, we are very much alive and very capable of

still making decisions on how we live. Look how alive Lou is today

with the help of a caring provider and morphine. Her spirit still shines

through.

I, like everyone here, don't like having the disease nor do I like the

prognosis. But, I do know how I want to live through each stage of the

progression, however fast the stages come or however long each one

lasts. I learn from so many here. I learned so much from Gwynne. I sit

here seeing Peggy's excitement over all those coming to Orlando and know

how much she's going to enjoy it. I talk to you and see you and Rich

having a full life. I try to keep up with Beth on traveling, but

she's charged ahead for now. I'll get back on the road though. I learn

some painful things such as Joyce's Pulmonary Hypertension, but it sure

makes me diligent on echocardiograms and on maintaining oxygen levels. I

also know about Flolan if I ever face that decision. I do think

following others and reading and communicating gives knowledge that is

invaluable. To me, knowledge is power. I feel better having the power to

decide how I want to face today and the future.
