Guest guest
Dear Nickie, I really needed to read that email about your dad. Courage and perseverance...that is him; thank you. Karima Re: Update Dad's radiation treatments - , It sounds like your mom is doing great and that she has a good Onc. My dad is also incurable -- he is stage 4 CC, initially with liver, lung and abdominal mets. He's been on various chemo regimens (Oxi/Xeloda; Erbitux/CPT-11; now Avastin/Xeloda) for the past few years... His liver mets are gone, lung mets decreased substantially, and abdominal mets decreased (except for the one near his right abdomen that is being treated for radiation). They stopped chemo during the radation but will resume Avastin/Xeloda again. He is on his 2nd week of radiation (total 4 weeks, M-F). He will have chemo or radiation for the rest of his life (hopefully a long life), but his quality of life is good. He still works part-time, drives, eats anything he wants except for wine. He was able to fly down to Los Angeles (my parents live south of San Francisco) to see me and my new house for a weekend recently. My sister and I are planning a cruise with my parents for next summer. I hope your mom's treatments continue to work, and my prayers are with you and your family!!Please keep us posted on her progress... Her tumor is too advanced for surgery, they used radiation with hopes that they could shrink it, we thought for surgery but it turns out they were just hoping to make her more comfortable because they figured it couldn't come out...they were right. she had radiation for 6 1/2 weeks m-f along with 5 fu. now she is on oxal, avastin, leuk. and other stuff...they big guns I guess she has 3 more treatments and then she will take a break and go on a maintenance chemo, probably 5fu. From what we gather she will continue with treatment indefinitely since she is not curable they will do this to keep it in check. So far so good though, she is finally gaining weight and feels pretty good and her cea level is now at 2.6. I hope your dad does well. What stage is he?
