Guest guest
Joyce, I'm glad you are home safely and got through the biopsy process. I'm sorry that it was so awful for you. Complications are not uncommon as we've talked about here. But mostly I'm just glad you are back in your own home where you can recuperate on your own terms. I think in any discussion of having either a VATS or an open lung biopsy there is a wide range of experiences and opinions. Mine was very difficult as your seems to have been. I started out to have a VATS but ended up with an open lung biopsy. I reacted badly to the anesthesia and was in the ICU on a ventilator for a couple of days. It is possible your feelings may change when you find out what kind of information the doctors have been able to learn from the biopsy. But in the meantime you need to concentrate on looking after yourself. Baby yourself Joyce. Rest, drink fluids, eat simple foods and then rest some more. Make sure you are using the oxygen that you need and don't run short. The Vats almost killed me. I have been in ICU. My lungs wouldn't saturate after the surgery. I was intibated and everything on large amounts of oxygen to just maintain a 88. I am home now but very tired and weak and can barely function. I sit up and I lie down and that is about all I can do...but if you ask me now would I have the VATS it would be NO! Guest guest
Rudy... I'm sure sorry to hear about your complications with the VATS. Do you have someone with you to care for you and feed the dogs? It's too bad there is no way of knowing BEFORE the VATS how a person may react.... Do take care. MamaSher; 70, IPF 3-06, OR. NasturtiumsDon't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
Sorry you had such a terrible time, Joyce. I, too, had a bad experience with the VATS, so I feel your pain. I hope you are better soon. I think it too me a couple of months before I halfway felt back to normal. I hope you recover soon. Guest guest
Joyce Sorry it was difficult for you. I went to the ICU floor too after surgery and I can assure you that I had my period of thinking I would have never done it had I known what it was like. I was in the hospital for about the same time you were. However, things settled down and I was fine and ultimately very glad I had the VATS because it gave the information I was after. At this point, you've had it and in recovery so the worst is over. I'm hoping you were given an incentive spirometer to use regularly. If so, please do use it with dedication as the key now is maintaining your lung function so you don't get pneumonia. Have you gotten any report from the biopsy yet or, if not, when do you get that? I was thinking of you just yesterday and glad to see you back. > > Just got home from my Thursday in and out vats. The Vats almost killed me. I have been in ICU.
