In searching the literature, I saw studies that maintain that Calcium

Carbonate specifically affects the absorption of thyroid replacement. What

if you are taking Calcium Citrate?

One for the pharmacist - from what I recall Calcium ions react

with the thyroxine to produce an insoluble compound which washes

right through you, so probably best to avoid anything with

calcium that can actually be absorbed by your body (including

milk). The usual advice is take the hormone first thing in the

morning and wait for an hour after taking the replacement

hormone before eating, or drinking milk.

It is more about consistency, if you always take exactly the

same amount of calcium at the same time, you'd just need more

thyroid replacement, although at drug company prices perhaps it

is just better to take it with water and wait an hour for

breakfast.
