Guest guest
Miranda...when I had mine it did not hurt. There is some sedation but it didn't take long. Guess it also depends on what all dr orders too. Dr will insert a device up through the groin and up through a vein to look at the heart... At least that is how MINE was done. Good Luck.. Guest guest
Only when they lean on your leg! The run a camera up your femoral artery in the thigh to your heart. Since it is an artery when they remove the camera they really lean on you for like 5 minutes to it clots. I have not had it done but my dear husband had two. Hello ..... Guest guest
Hi Miranda, It didn't hurt a bit when I had mine. I can't have any kind of anesthesia so I was fully awake and right there. He just slapped, patted real hard on the spot where he was going to insert the needle with the camera. I don't remember the prick even being as bad as a blood test. He was very good. It took a while for him to get to the pulmonary artery and look around. He did the nitric oxide challenge for checking the pressure in my pulmonary artery. He went to the highest limit allowed, 40, and it didn't make any difference. That meant that the only thing to do for me is medication and oxygen. I am too old, too heavy and can't take anesthesia so a heart lung transplant was out for me. It was funny when he was removing the line when he was finished. It was like he was pulling on a water hose, hand over hand. I didn't feel it but was watching what he was doing. I think there were two respiration/anesthesia people there with the nitric oxide and two assistants along with the cardiologist. I never thought I had a lung problem and went to the cardiologist who diagnosed the PH and referred me to the pulmonologist. I take a hand full of medication that has made me feel better but has only slowed the progress of my diseases.. I thought I would be dead by now. I am looking forward to spring and summer. I want to travel as much as I can, enjoy my garden and be around for my apples to ripen... Guest guest
I was terrified of the heart cath. But it was no big deal. The procedure room was cold. the part i didn't like was having to lie flat on my back for a few hours afterwards. Should have brought a book on tape to listen to. Guest guest
My first cardiac cath was for a heart attack and what turned out to be a 99% blockage. I had no time to be scared or anything over it and since I had morphine in the ER I really did not care about it. However, I have had 4 more since then. They really are nothing to be too worried about. I was always given one of those I know but I don't care drugs. You know the kind where they could have told me they were going to take my leg off and I probably would have said ok. The biggest problem I also found was after when they make you lie still and not move for hours. Afterwards your back will hurt from lieing still but the incision will be ok.
