Guest guest
Dear group, I'm having great difficulty getting any sleep - I'm trying Melatonin and had 2x3mg last night but with little success. Is there any harm in using large doses of melatonin for long periods? I am using Valerian, St JOhns and Gotu cola but nothing is really helping Any advice would be helpful. I am chelating with 12mg of ALA at the moment and I think that I will have to stop the round as my system is pretty bad. Or is it possible to drop the dose during the round? I have a couple of Temazepam off the doc and think I wil have to use that tonight Yours faithfully
Guest guest
ALA stores Cu, and Cu causes racing mind along with other symptoms. I'll say it is ALA causing insomnia. Vit C and Zinc depletes Cu, so you may want to add this to your supplement list. Last but not least, Magnesium really helps with sleep issues. Andy has said that there is no feed-back mechanism for melatonin. That is, taking it does not suppress endogenous production. So, you can take lots. He's taken up to 30mg. Other than that, the only thing I can say is that if this is one of your symptoms, you should expect ALA to make it worse. I would get this way, and get thrown into a hypo-manic state - which was pleasant when I was younger, but no longer ... So, you have to do all the things you do to help your symptoms, except do them _more_. Dave. Guest guest
I have had trouble with sleep. I also have used melatonin and other remedies. Recently my acupuncturist/nutritionist suggested taking two gel caps of DHA (oil) at bedtime. This has worked the best of anything I have tried. He has me on Arctic omega with each meal, one DHA with dinner, and then the two DHAs at bedtime. The combined oils seem to be just what I need at this time. llamabb > > Dear group, > > I'm having great difficulty getting any sleep - I'm trying Melatonin > and had 2x3mg last night but with little success. By what mechanism then does the body keep its own melatonin levels in check? Thanks, DeanSA
Guest guest
I think in one of the files is an old post from andy or maybe it was in AI. I belive he said he ws taking 20 mgs of melatonin Starting melatonin was a great help for me (i was doing 10-20 mgs per night before I had my amalgams removed) Post amalgams my sleep worsened, dunno if it was the chelation or just body releasing stores of mercury but my sleep became worse again..it could have also been stress of adrenals whcih I have read can effect sleep. I ended up taking I think 15-20 mgs of hydrocortisone one night when I woke up and was really feeling sore and achey all over..it knocked me right out (ie i drifted off to sleep) I am now taking 0.5 mgs clonazepan (klonoprin generic I believe)and also up to 15 mgs melatonin and approx 3 grams of magnesium (twice daily-Magna Calm by Longevity Science) Personally I think my poor sleep is a result of many things going on (mercury load, chelation, low adrenals, high blood sugar, low levels of neurotransmitters particularly serotonin which is helped I believe by 5htp) > Dear group, > I'm having great difficulty getting any sleep - I'm trying > Melatonin and had 2x3mg last night but with little success. Guest guest
Just a quick warning on melatonin. It can drive cortisol down, especially in the quantities being talked about here. If you have weak adrenals, taking melatonin may low cortisol symptoms worse at nighttime. I have to balance a very thin line of talking enough melatonin to sleep, and not too much that it will give me adrenal problems. My hormone doctor, Thierry Hertoghe, believes that 1-2mg, taken sublingually, is best. Of course, we all find what works best for us, but I wanted to point out the melatonin-cortisol link here. Guest guest
wow this is amazing, I guess like with all supplements, there is a pro and a con..Thank you for adding this Nicola, it may be part of my adrenal problem which i know has worsened in the past 4-5 months...but I had been thinking it just had to do with the stresses of amalgam removal/chelation i still think melatonin helped my sleep but if as you say, it lowers cortisol, I am probably creating more of my own problems > > > > I think in one of the files is an old post from andy or maybe it > > was in AI. What is the link between cortisol and melatonin? Or, where might we look up more information about that link? Or, just how did you find out about it? Is it just your experience, as you described, or is there some broader discussion of this? Dave.
