Thinking of treating myself to a new breast-feeding bra, seem to remember

there was a discussion a while ago? but I wasn't paying attention :(

Particularly taken with the Bravado Bras at the moment:

- anyone else bought one: is it worth the money? more comfortable than

cheaper breastfeeding bras? etc.

- where's the best place for me to get one?

- any other bras that you would recommend above the Bravado?

TIA

Jenni, if you'd like to join the BreastfeedingUK list at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BreastfeedingUK, someone wrote a review the

other day and posted it as a file. She's listed all the bras available,

what they're like and where you can get them (shops and websites). It looks

very useful and is up-to-date. This group mainly consists of people from

here and the homebirth group so you'll know them all ;o))

Well I know Angi would disagree with me on this one, but the M&S feeding bras

are really nice - very comfy, easy to use, supportive and a nice shape.

Personally I'd recommend virtually anything over the Bravado as I

loathed it. But I know I'm something of a lone voice in that respect.

My faves were the Emma Jane ones, from . Over my 2year

breastfeeding career I also tried a black Mava which I didn't like and

Mothercare ones which I didn't like either. I found I hate clips but

got on well with zip cups.

The EJ ones ended up looking very grey and sad by the end but they

were defnitely the best for me.

Agree with the Emma Jane - I liked the zip cups too - and the

Mothercare ones were awful - and all polyester so they got itchy

scratchy!

The thing about the bravado is that they just look nicer! Can't

mava look into doing some slightly more 'sexy' looking bras? I

never wear them normally so it was awful wearing such

industrial things! My cup size has already gone from A to over a D

at 18 weeks - goodness knows what my feeding size is going to

be.

Oh yes - and defnitely not good for sore nipples. I remember

complaining about them when I was about 4 weeks postnatal and the

woman looking at me as though I was stupid.

Just a case of getting into the habit of inserting thumb between bra

and breast as you zip!

Ditto (and ouch)! Plus, I had to use two hands and struggle

to get them open or shut. I ended up with bland white

cotton Mothercare snap cups. They look a bit old now, but

are still fine after 19 months. I have to add, though, that

I went from just over A to just under B, so didn’t need

anything industrial strength. And I had been hoping to have

boobs for once in my life. Sigh.

I agree - with the zip ones is that I couldn't open and close the cups subtly

- needed 2 hands - whereas I found the catches really easy.

Got to go and get some new bras today as my boobs have expanded already - it

will be the first time I have worn something other than a nursing bra for

over 2 years as Kitty only stopped bf a few weeks ago... 24 weeks to go until

I start again!

tell me about it... I just got the Emma Jane sports bra from Blooming

Marvelous... its not a nursing bra, but is ideal for pregnancy, really

comfy.... My old Bravados are too big now (lost 3.5 st since last

baby) so I have bought one new one, (leopard skin of course!)and will

get more, the thing I like about them is their expandability... I go

from a C cup normally to an H! (for a week or so!) ( d/dd for most of

preg & bf!!)and the bravado can cope with that:-)

Susy only stopped feeding a few weeks ago too, but I had given up with

nursing bras long before that as they are just so blooming ugly!!

I have tried M&S (don't like the shape on me, and find them stiff to

begin with and then droopy and support-less), and Mava (really hard to

do up onehanded and went grey very fast, also too much synthetics) I

think its horses for courses, you have to try on a lot of frogs before

you find your prince!!

Before dd2 arrived, I got a couple more Bravado bras in the size I wore

while feeding dd1, as my original two were looking rather worn. After

she was born, I had to get more in the next size up, which I'm still

wearing. I seem to have stuck at somewhere about a D this time - I put a

non-feeding bra on the other day for the first time since dd2 arrived -

a C cup, and it barely fitted. This is a bit of a shock as I've always

been an A/B and went back to that between dd1 & dd2. Admittedly dd2 is

still feeding a bit, but it's only about twice a day now, and I'm sure

I'd shrunk more than this at this stage with dd1. Is this likely to

remain, or will they eventually shrink again??!!

Me too, I much preferred the clips, which I could do one handed rather than

trying to scoop myself back into the zip cup.

I have one. I should say that pull on bras are a bit of a wrestling

match for me for starters - this isn't as bad, but I do still get

into a muddle with it. A friend and I were discussing our Bravados a

while back and we agreed that they don't actually provide much

support - in which case why bother wearing one at all? I think the

band has changed since I bought mine, but being wide it gets hot.

>

>- where's the best place for me to get one?

I got mine from www.bareware.net but I am not sure it is the cheapest

place anymore.

>

Have to say my favourite are some plain cotton Mothercare ones which

flatter me, are comfortable and stay white. I also like (whisper it)

my underwired one - a US brand I think, which really is flattering

(even in pointelle which I don't normally like) - the only problem is

that it has proper metal hooks on teh cups and they dig in when I

forget to hitch up!

Bit of a feeding bra junkie it seems - I have about 12, though some

were only practical when DS1 as small and fed predictably 45 minutes

at a time and one has more or less given up the ghost. Anyway, it is

just as well as they are DS2's TCO of choice around the house, so I

still struggle to find a clean one! My mother says she didn't bother

with special bras after a while, but I tried and it was awful.

I'm waiting hopefully for the invention of the self-clipping bra!

You sound like me, size-wise - and I found the Mothercare bras too big in

the cup. Emma jane clipped ones for me worked best! One in particular,

sold by Blooming Marvellous, was vvv comfy.

Anneliese who's even smaller now...

I loved the EJ zip cups too! But then I was 32J(!) for ages and that

was the only make I could find (there was one Mava but it was more

like a 34).

Oh and I wish the EJ zip cup would come in black as I jsut can't keep

white bras white.

Does anyone have and secret tips for keeping white bras white???
