Same with Swish of the Curtain (I loved the Pamela Brown books). As a 14 year old I was really taken by 'Penmarric' ( Howatch) and read it about 6 times...and then my mum was offered the job as costume designer on the TV series!! Joy of joys! I saw the rather pathetic background notes that came with the script - and set about rewriting them - along with a very accurate family tree (the writer's one was quite pathetic) - and it ended up being used by the crew!! Anyway - despite this hard work it was still a totally awful series You can sometimes find videos of it in the library. My mum did the middle 6 episodes (edwardian/first world war era) and to be honest the only thing good about it is the costumes ) It did mean i spent the whole of 1979 summer in Cornwall - mostly St Ives. As my mum was working I could do what i liked when I liked - really quite blissful. Caroline
