Hi. I'm the girl with the urticaria whose endo(two, if you

count his partner) will not switch me to PTU and wants me to drop the

Tap cold turkey because of " contraindications " . Give me a

break. I've got a couple of internal medicine guys to fall back

on, thanks for the suggestion, Elaine.

At the encouragement of the members here, I called my potentially new

endo and asked the scheduler if there were any cancellations I could

take before my first " formal " consultation late next week. Well, he

has agreed to stay late tomorrow and see me at 4:00 if I promise not

to no-show. Hurray! I will beg, borrow or steal PTU. Jees, you'd

think it was heroin.

Also, I got new labs:

Results Range

Free T3 3.5 2.3--4.2 pg/mL

Free T4 1.3 0.7--1.5 ng/dL

TSH <0.01 0.30--5.00 uIU/mL

Anti-TPO 1.2 0.02--2.0 IU/mL

TSI (NI) Results to follow

Any input out there? This lab is after 1 month on Tapazole (20mg

until I had the hives, then I dropped to 15mg and spaced it 3x a day

like Kristi and the hives are gone but I'm still itchy).

I'm learning and progressing. Questioning authority is the first

lesson.

Thanks, everyone.

Hi ,

I am just flying through here, and have not even read any of the other posts

today. No time...the tow truck just dropped me off AGAIN :-(

But you know I have been following your saga.

Hip hip hooray ! In only 4 weeks you are already in the normal range, and

not at a bad place at that.

The 20mg was obviously too much...and in time the itching was screaming at

you ' something is wrong here ' ... Since it turns out you were never told

the proper three times a day PROPER dosing..and on too much...the itching

and hives should be no surprise.

You did GREAT all on your own, finding the 15mg was OK and also the proper

dosing.

Since if you stay on the 15 mg you will most likely be hypo in short

time...if it were ME...I would stick with the Tap for one more week, get

labs and immediately lower the dose. Then the itching should be done and

gone.

But that is ME. Since you do not seem to truly be 'allergic' to Tap. but

only overdosed, and now having the very common beginning dose itching,

staying on it one more week to be able to have time to see EXACTLY what 15

mg does to your labs...well, then you do not eliminate forever one of only

two choices of anti thyroid drugs.

There is a remote chance you could be TRULY allergic to PTU, and then you

would be in a bad spot.

I know you may not FEEL normal yet, as it takes time to all the damage that

has been done to heal, but if you continue this slow and steady course, the

odds for a smoother ride are in your favor.

Just my opinion.

-Pam L - you will NEVER forget that horrid month of itching. As I scratched,

I keep telling myself this IS better than swallowing radiation.

Yes...it is burned in my memory FOREVER !

On to my next job on foot :-(
