Guest guest
Dear , Yes, my father had 80% of his liver resected and his spleen removed in 8/01; his sigmoid colon removed in 11/02. He suffers from constipation often (probably due to the pain meds) and takes stool softeners regularly. He's been on a chemo regimen since 11/02, but has very minimal side effects or symptoms other than fatigue and the abdominal pain that has increased since May. We hope that the radiation will decrease his abdominal met -- it's near the surface (you can see it bulging out) so I hope the radiation won't destroy his digestive tract. I hope you are doing better! Thanks for your help!! Best, Nickie tsalagi@...> wrote: >>>What kind of radiation did you have? Where was the radiation given? What side effects did you have? I don't know anyone who has had radiation since it is not common for people with colon cancer to undergo this type of treatment. Kind regards, Nickie >>> Dear Nickie, It is first line treatment for most cancers of the female reproductive organs. You will be able to find all kinds of info on coping with radiation and side effects at www.hystersisters.com Yes, it's for women that have hysterectomies, but go to the Cancer Concerns forum. The reason I am here, is because I needed info on how to cope with the bowel problems caused from losing 1/3 of my colon and 30 " of small intestines due to the radiation damage. The surgeon said my colon looked like plastic wrap you had stuck a match to.....melted. so, if you don't mind wading through alot of " woman talk " , you could find lots of info at that sight:) My radiation field covered the area from just below my breasts down to.....well, the top of my thighs:) I had some radiation burn, but not all that bad. I did have diarrhea but nothing like what I've been living with for over a year now!! Immodium controlled it completely through my treatments. A diet of bland food really helps too. Alot of potatoes, rice, etc. Has your father had surgery at all? If so, what was removed? ---------- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. If he is always constipated, this may actually be a " good " thing:) Perhaps he will find a happy normal??? Keeping you in my prayers, nancy j ---------- No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
, I will let my Dad know -- the radiation oncologist said the same thing. You had said that you have a lot of problems in your intestines from the colon damage. Are they doing anything for this? Will you be having additional surgery? I don't know where you are located, but my Dad is treated at Stanford Cancer Center in northern California. The surgeons who operated on him are fantastic. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family!
