Guest guest
Hi Doris, My feet don't peel, but they do have a recurring, itchy rash on them. They can be fine for months, then the rash will just reappear. My ND thinks it is related to liver problems caused by GD. My brother, who has had a lifelong severe immune system deficiency has always had horribly peeling feet. As far as we know, his thyroid is ok, but he hasn't had liver or thyroid panels done. I hope you find some relief, Tori In a message dated 11/25/2002 11:35:46 AM Pacific Standard Time, k9mom_1999@... writes: > ARGHHHH!!! Guest guest
FEET PEELING - Anyone else's doing this? Hi Doris: My regular gp, after having me try ketoconozole (I think an anti-fungal) and OTC anti-fungal, has given me a prescription now for Nystatin powder to put in my socks before wearing them. Since I only see my endo 2x/year, I keep forgetting to ask her about this and if other thyroid patients have this problem. By the way, I haven't even filled the prescription yet, so can't tell you if it works or not, but I'm not hopeful at this point. If I remember correctly, nystatin is for yeast infections. Good luck, Beverly Dx 1/97, rai 2/97, rollercoaster with levels until just recently
Guest guest
Pam, I love Carmex! I was telling my Dad about Carmex the other day...can't believe he never heard of it! I thought everyone knew about Carmex! Thanks for the tip! Love,
Guest guest
Hi Doris, As you know, I have the same toe issues and also the feet peeling. None of this was there prior to Graves'. It built up slowly at the exact same time as my hyper was building up. In fact, another doc is on my stupid list, since I went in about my toes and feet to this GP when I was VERY hyper, sweating, shaking, and eyes bugged way out, and he said nothing. I was also complaining at the time about not sleeping and being so exhausted, that the toes were just one too many things for me to be able to handle. I could hardly get to work, and having to put shoes on was the final straw in the whole mess, since my toes hurt so bad. Anyway.... I still do the Vicks on my toe nails at least three days before time to cut them, and it makes the project SO much easier. Softens them right up, and makes the weird fungus looking stuff sort of clear up. I put this on twice a day, before dressing in the AM and before bed. If I would ever FOCUS...and do it consistently for a long time, perhaps this could end. And then there is the tea tree oil, I keep meaning to try. I see it listed as working on fungus more often here lately. But...the reason I am replying is because I have found a pretty good fix for the peeling skin. I waited several months while doing this, to be sure it was not a freak incident. Carmex ! The stuff sold in a tiny jar, cheap, and says it works for cold sores, chapped lips, etc. I have used it for years and years for other things. It will get a small scratch or bug bite to heal much faster, and also was my stand by cure for vaginal tears. Tiny burn right at application, but fixed in 24 hr. So one night I had the bright idea to try it on my poor peeling feet. It took several nights , and low and behold, they were really looking better. I have been at this pretty regular now for a few months, and all the peeling skin is gone except for some still on the heel and inside of the ball of the foot. All on the bottom, none left on the sides of my feet. Soooo...was it the Carmex, OR since I am only now at the right thyroid levels for ME, is it somehow like other things, like hair, that has that delayed reaction and takes a few months at normal levels to start showing ? I did the Vaseline off and on for years, but the affects are temporary. This with the Carmex is lasting. Now, we just need to figure how you can do this Doris, without the dogs chewing your feet. If you try it, what about doing it every AM before putting your socks on for the day ? Or maybe they won't like Carmex as much as they loved the Vicks. :-) Oh...I use the Carmex in the JAR not the tube as it is more solid and stays on the feet and not the socks. It is a bit like oiling wood..at first it just is absorbed and you see nothing...as time goes on, the skin seems to become more normal and it does not take as much. -Pam L- who several times has discovered Necessity truly IS the mother of invention, and has not killed herself yet...keep your fingers crossed :-)

Guest guest
Doris, One more thing, my feet are okay, but my hands crack and peel. In between the fingers they crack open and bleed. Anyhow, my GP told me to put olive oil, almond oil or even like bag balm or corn huskers lotion on my hands right before bead and then sleep with white cotton gloves on. It helps! My hands are still a little dry but they don't crack and bleed. Maybe if you did that before bed and then slept with light cotton socks on??? I dunno! Might help. Guest guest
Well, ... at least the three of us know about Carmex. If you ever get one of those painful hangnails, this is a good one too. And I have, for years put some on the sides of my fingernails, to keep them soft, and prevent hangnails. Amazing it took this long to try it on my feet, since 'try anything' is the name of the game on this one. Doris... glad you will try this. Maybe we can start to guess if it is being on ATDs or, hypo or hyper..or ???? Since mine is so much better. Watch out for the pups though, as this is probably not one of the basic food groups. :-) The first time I used it, the stuff kept disappearing like I hadn't put any one. Thus my analogy of oiling wood cabinets that haven't been done in years. Though it does not do anything for the toe nails themselves. Well, not as good as the Vicks. Val, You are right, I kept trying to remember to get Corn Huskers lotion. Never quite remembered when ever I was IN a store. -Pam L -

Guest guest
Terry, It is sold at most all grocery, garden, and drug stores. It is in a little white ceramic jar , about as big around as a 50 cent piece and maybe an inch high. Cost of the one I have here is $1.19. It will be with the lip balm things. It's an old time product that has taken the test of time. -Pam L-
