Guest guest
DH drives our MPV, a Nissan Serena which I hate, mainly cos it's so hard to get in and out of, has no handle on the inside of the driving side to help me lever myself in (and I'm short and arthritic). It has no sunroof (older models did) but drives OK. I love convertibles. I have had 2 second hand Ford Escort Cabriolets, the most recent one is an N reg so not that recent, but still goes beautifully and everyone admires it, it's so cool and zippy. When I change it eventually I am looking at one that does NOT have a central bar between front and rear seats, (so uncool!) and maybe has a remote control electric roof like the ads for the new Vauxhall Astra, although I wonder if it's as simple as in the advert, where he beeps the remote from the train window cos he sees it's raining. In my car, after the roof closes electrically, you still have to clip the roof down on both sides. I wonder if that is the case with the Astra. Guest guest
> Also you always see > these *better* prices for cars imported into the Country but has > anyone dared to do that? You do need to be a bit careful as cars built for a different market could have a lower build specification. For instance, cars built for southern Europe might rust more quickly as they are not built to withstand northern weather. There could be safety implications as well if other countries have different safety standards. Guest guest
<<>Still thinking about this - or a >Renault Scenic - would like to know thoughts on this as well.>>>> Oh... well apologies in advance but you said the word(s) that gets me started.... We had a Renault Scenic before the Picasso and I hated it (as did dh) it was without a doubt the worst buy we ever did.. I think to be truthful we had a bad specimen in the nearly 3 years we had it - from new- it had twice problems with the air-conditioning once alternator gave out after a year and a half - me on my own with 2 young children on M 25 Eloisa back then 6 weeks NEVER in my life been that pleased I was breastfeeding as I had left my sil's 2 hours later than I had intended had I been bottle feeding I would not have had enough bottles with me even if I had taken a extra we arrived home 6 hours after we had left (a 1 hour journey) reversing light system went after 12.5 months (and they would not cover it under standard warranty) powersteering went wrong and once it needed new brakes (after 9K) ALL in a car that had driven 20K at the end of the 3 years) BUT even taking that aside... I found it difficult to park (as I didn't find the visibility in the back very good) The gears are so close together that even nearly 3 years down the lane both me and dh was at least once a day putting it into 1st when wanting 3rd or 2nd when wanting 4th.. Brakes not wonderful (really need to bash them - unless your foot is straight on - also it is something you don't notice so much in a test drive as it is a unknown car and you are thinking oh I will get used to that...) and aps is not standard Also it stalls SO easily it is just stupid dh say's he feels gear box is like a woodenspoon and cakemix.. I liked The versatility it offered with the seats and the space it had inside.. 3 point harness in the middle seat at the back. Good dashboard design Very good stork radio controls 2 electronic key's Generally it was a well designed car it was just very badly put together.. (dh says to point out this was the old model they have slightly updated it since) Our local garage was really awful about all repairs and general maintenance (obviously did not help our liking of the car) Also I just want to point out that in a recent car survey I saw with regards to whiplash injuries the Scenic came out the worst in fact it came out with a recommendation that they redesign the neckrests as they offered no support.. Very interesting to me as our Scenic came to a end in a carcrash I was in, that resulted in me having a whiplash injury.. But whist this was a horrible time in a way it was the best that could happen for us as Renault had worked out the original balloon payment wrongly and we had actually lost our initial laydown payment and was standing to loose at least 1 - 1.5k more but as it was a accident write off we got a payoff according to " book " price and got out of it " only " loosing our original laydown a lot better than we had thought we would get from it.. But I for one am never buying a Renault again.. Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. Guest guest
Kirsten we went into Yahoo put in Citroen dealers and then went into the web pages of the dealers that was within reasonable distance (no more than 2 hours we felt) when we got to the dealer (Broad's Chalfont St Giles) we bought from they had a great offer on (around the same you have been quoted) then we rang them up and it took us about 15 mins (with them faxing us details) to settle the deal with them must have been the quickest ever commission that guy ever made.. Dh says that Citroen dealers are trained to do deal's as they have a rather small market share and are aiming to get it up so if you are paying cash you should be able to get a good deal. However he also warns that this may not be the case on the Picasso as they are becoming a very popular car.. Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... Re: New Car! >we have one had it since November and I LOVE IT.. NOTHING to complain about I just adore it.. >Oh can I btw suggest that you have a little surf on the internet we found ours in Chalfont (north of London) and live in Surrey but they had the car nearly 2k cheaper and a 1.8 model as opposed to the 1.6 we where looking at down in Kingston.. obviously took a little longer to collect than going the 20 mins down the road to Kingston but for 2k saving I didn't mind and it gave us a lovely chance to give it a good test drive going home via the m25.. Lonnie, We have been quoted £11,245 for a 1.8 16-valve SX model. Does this sound good to you? I know it is cheaper than the list price but I would like to know if I can get it cheaper as we are paying cash. We are in Surrey too and have seen that price up in Croydon near my parents, so looks like we will be travelling to pick it up! We are also planning on getting the new no.plate so collecting on 1st Sept, but we are off on Hols on the 2nd. I seem to be doing everything with a tight deadline this summer!! Guest guest
Yes, our last family car (Nissan Sunny) was an import. Actually, we bought it when it was a year old, at auction, so we didn't realise for quite a while. I have to say, it's the best car we've ever had. It had been a company car - which we would have avoided at a dealership as most people just don't bother to take good care of them, in our experience But we needed a big car and couldn't afford dealership prices.... In the 4 years we had it, the only thing that ever went wrong was a hole in the exhaust, which is how we came to discover it was an import as the listed part didn't fit it and we either had to get a new exhaust from Japan or bodge one from Kwikfit - guess which option we chose? We gave it to SIL when we bought the Serena, and she's letting it rot outside her house, blast her eyes! We asked for it back last summer as DH's car is old and unreliable and the kit he's building is taking longer than he expected and she wasn't using it and he'd have appreciated the air con. But she wasn't playing.......( Vicki Portman http://www.plushpants.co.uk > > Otherwise I would agree with checking the web. Guest guest
Much as I know an MPV would be practical, I'd love a sports car, especially while the boys are still small and could all fit in to it. The Audi TT looks nice, but I'm not sure I can get two child seats plus a baby onto the back seat.... Oh well, I can have a dream ))) Hannah RE: Re: New Car! It just felt better for me. I am quite small, height and feet! In the Clio I had to bend down to reach the handbrake - a big no no In the Metro I had to sit with my nose on the windscreen to reach the clutch. (I prefer to sit at arms length (with slight bend in arm) to the steering wheel) The Fiesta didn't seem to have any go in it. Shall I stop there????? In all respects - appearance, trim, handling (light steering for example), size, economy, luggage space. Apparently men and women want different things from a car and lots of research went into building the Micra as the ideal " woman's car " . (Must be aimed at a single woman with no children though as in my experience the most important things are enough boot space for a double buggy and room to get three car seats across the back!)
