Hi Jane:

You will find lots of support here. I also have stage 4 or metastatic colon

cancer (liver and lymphs). I had a colon and liver resection in May and

took months to recover due to an abscess on the liver following surgery.

Because of the abscess, my chemo was delayed and I just began round one last

Wednesday. My port a cath was inserted Wednesday morning and I went directly

for

chemo. I started on oxaliplatin and 5Fu and they intend to add Avastin on the

third round (too early now because my liver still needs to heal). I am not

familiar with Erbitux (is that Avastin?).

How are you doing with your chemo? It sounds like it is going well if the

liver mets are gone. I assume you did not have a liver resection. Hang in

there. I am trying to do so but it is hard even with only one chemo treatment

under my belt. I have been so sick since Friday (day 3). Do you have 12

total chemo treatments?

I know it is hard to go through this even with a family but it must be more

difficult with only 2 girls. I have 2 boys and a husband and I feel so

guilty that I cannot do more with the boys. We are trying to fly to Carmel

this

Wednesday and I am determined to go so the boys will have been somewhere this

summer.

Take care.

Hi, I am Jane, a single mom with two teenage girls. I was diagnosed

with colon cancer in 2003 when I was 43yo. I had surgery and was

diagnosed with stage IIB - no lymph node involvement. I went thru a

round of chemo and scans showed all was clear. Last Oct. my hemoglobin

was very low and the dr. thought I had bleeding somewhere so we started

testing. The scans showed mets in my liver plus I had a tumor in my

duodenum. The dr. says I am stage IV. I am again going thru chemo. I

think I have about 6 weeks left. I receive 5FU and Oxaliplatin. I did

receive erbitux also for about 4 months. Recent scans show the liver is

clear. I will have to have another endoscope done to check on the

duodenum tumor. My mom had colon cancer at 56yo. She is still going

strong at 87. We think my grandfather may have had duodenal cancer but

we are not sure. Chemo is difficult but when I start hearing others

stories and their difficulties it makes me feel stronger and that I am

not alone. Cancer causes so much more then just health problems. But I

take it one day at a time, one step at a time.

Hi ,

I was unable to have a liver resection because i had tumors

throughout my liver plus I had the tumor in the duodenum. I started

on 5FU, oxaliplatin and erbitux in Feb. I am not receiving the

erbitux anymore. It is a new drug that seems to have worked some for

me. I think I have 3 more treatments left. I also get very sick

about 3 days after treatment. It takes several days for me to start

feeling better. I get knocked off my feet and just rest for about 4

days. I do have some numbness and nausea. The worst thing has been

the effect on my sense of taste. My taste would get bad for a few

days but now it is bad all the time. It is very hard to go and let

them poison you knowing that you will get sick.

It is hard when you have children. It effects everyone. My dr. told

me to take a trip because we do not know what the future holds. We

were given a trip to NYC by a dream granting organization and it was

wonderfully relaxing. Hang in there and stay strong.

Hi Darren,

Did you have the whipple procedure done on your duodenum? If so, how

was the recuperation from it? I know it is a major procedure and I am

hoping the dr can do it for me after my chemo is over. Thanks for

sharing.

Hi Jane, Welcome to our group. Sorry you had to join us because of

being ill. But you will find that the people here are a great group.

Willing to answer any questions, give support and just be there for

each other.

You sound like you have a good outlook on life. I am happy that the

recent scans have showed that the chemo has gotten the cancer in your

liver. That is wonderful. There are a lot of stage 4 on this group

that have also beaten this monster. You sound like a real fighter. I

will send an extra Prayer up for you!!!! Keep up the great fight. You

are an inspraration to us. Thank You for sharing your story. Please

post often and let us know how you are doing. Ingrid
