Guest guest
Hi Phil, Just a few thoughts on what you wrote. I'm sure you will hear a lot from other people. I had a nearly identical problem with hives/urticaria when I bathed in hot water or exercised. I also have had severe exacerbations of this type (anaphylactic attacks), sometimes for no apparent reason, and sometimes after exposure to chelators or during unprotected filing removals. Because these symptoms largely disappeared after my filings were removed, and because I testing positive for allergic sensitivity to Mercury in my MELISA test (and for many other reasons - too many to list), I am certain that Mercury was the culprit for me. I also had severe Candida which is now very mild. Also had fatigue and frequent urination, along with about 20 other things. The " frequent dose chelators " do not generally talk about the MELISA test, but there are a number of reasons I think you should consider it. They have found that there are genetic predispositions to metals sensitivity which are particularly common in persons of Nordic descent. The MELISA research was done in Norway, and some of their papers can be read at www.melisa.org. The MELISA researchers have found provable allergic sensitivities to nickel, gold, and other common metals as well as mercury and cadmium. I tested positive for mercury and cadmium allergy and have largely recovered after getting these out of my system. If you take this test you should be able to rule out the possibility that your trouble is related to your nickel crown, which is important to do before chelation, and possibly also find out if you are having an allergic reaction to mercury. Concerning chelation, I'm a true believer in the chelation protocol suggested by Cutler and by this group. I would make sure that nickel is not a problem for you BEFORE you try any chlelation, including ALA. If you do not have any mercury filings (including under your nickel crown!) then you might want to think about doing some rounds of chelation with DMSA and testing your urine to see how much lead and/or mercury you excrete. People who have poor metals excretion sometimes show paradoxically low levels of mercury, lead, etc. in hair and urine tests, so I wouldn't conclude this is not your problem on that basis alone. Cutler's book (Amalgam Illness) is worth reading for many reasons. Be aware, however, that the 50-100mg DMSA every three hours that he recommends for chelation is considered too much by many of us. I started at a mere 6mg, and plan to stay there for awhile. Many others start at 12.5mg, with many experiencing symptom exacerbations. On 6mg, I just feel much, much better than usual, so why rock the boat? That's my philosophy. I think it's reasonable to be very cautious, because writers on this board have complained about seizures, liver problems, atacks of hypotension, and other problems caused by too much DMSA (really by excessive mercury mobilization caused by DMSA). My impression is that I was sicker than you (severe gallstones, heart arrythmias, anaphylactic attacks, plus MS symtoms, CFS symtoms, fatigue, adrenal supressions, etc., etc.) 12 months ago but I am almost completely well, even when I am chelating. I couldn't exercise or think well enough to computer program 12 months ago, and now I am rock climbing, coding, and having a more or less normal life. So don't give up hope - I have found that this kind of thinking worsens and improves with the rest of the disease. Depression and anxiety are caused by metals poisoning and also Candida. It sometimes helps to remind yourself of that. Your sickness sounds like classic metals poisoning, probably involving Mercury. Immunizations and flu shots contained a lot of mercury (Thimersol) until recently. You could have an extreme allergic sensitivity, in which case very small exposures might make you very sick. If you are a particularly poor excretor of mercury (an inherited trait associated with the MTHFR single nucleotide polymorphism), then you might be accumulating and not excreting, which would constantly reinforce and exacerbate any allergy. People with more allergy than toxicity (like myself) seem to recover very quickly once they reduce the amount of metals in their " fast pool " . In my case, I also had very severe allergic reactions to the wrong chelators (EDTA) or chelators taken on the wrong schedule (ALA). If you are allergic you should go very slowly with chelation, but you may improve faster than you are expecting. If you aren't already on Nystatin you might want to try that. Taking fiber (Psyllium Husk and Cellulose) helps me. Zyrtec (prescription antihistimine) suppressed my urticaria and flushing by about 70%, which saved me from anaphylactic attacks. To me it sounds like you are on the right track and are close to finding out which metals are causing you problems if that is the case. Once you know, it sounds to me like you should be able to get through this no problem. It helps when you are depressed to know that is part of the poisoning. It helps to hear the many stories of people who were much sicker than you and are now fine after chelation.
