Whats unhealthy about quorn? Its protein, lower in fat (no saturated fat)

than meat, and theres no stringy bits like in chicken! Veges have to eat

more cheese as some fat is needed in the diet, plus its rich in calcium, and

is a source of protein.

Tofu fried with soy sauce (pre-substitutes) Spits like crazy in the

pan but taste/texture superb. Particularly good on wholemeal bread.

Had streaky bacon (English) muffins for breakfast this morning, no

pig involved (apart from me). (Lots of additives though)

However MacCartney rashers have to be one of the most appalling

things I have ever tried to eat.

Can you point me in the direction of the evidence for veggies being

healthier, ? I've had a quick trawl on the net but couldn't see

anything conclusive (apart from an article which seemed to imply that AIDS

could be prevented by vegetarianism). Our household is currently a mixture

of veggies, pescatarians and carnivores!

veg I cant even pronounce. For a lacto vege, cheese is a recommended source

of both protein and calcium, and as for vegans.... lifes too short!

Apparently it is perfectly possible to be an overweight vegan as

several such on the VSUK list bemoan (these are folk who really like

their food and definitely don't eat nothing but lentils and weird

vegetables - but at least one of the people I am thinking of doesn't

use soya milk either)

And also possible to eat a really appalling diet - I've done a wee

bit of snuffling around for Lesley, trying to make sense of it ATM

and make sure I don't just go for the results I like :-) I remember a

GP telling me about a teenager who had come in complaining of feeling

tired and asking if it was because she'd become a vegan. He told her

that the change was too recent to affect stores of the various

relevant nutrients but then inquired about what she was actually

eating - pre vegan - milk and biscuits, as a vegan, just the

biscuits. Definitely *not* healthier that diet!
