Adrienne,

I travel frequently by car. I bring a concentrator and tanks with me, trying to plan to have enough with me to meet my needs with some extra for safety sake. I always bring a copy of my prescription with me so that I can obtain more supplies (at my own expense) if I need them but so far I've always managed to have plenty of what I needed when I've been away.

Noticing that you mention you use liquid. Have you considered asking your supplier for a smaller (say 50 pound) liquid resevoir that will fit in your car? You can have it filled before you leave home, use it to fill your Helios when you're out and about, bring it in to wherever you are staying so that you can use it overnight and you'll be able to have it refilled ( at your own expense of course) at a local provider wherever you are.

I'm sure others will give you more ideas. Hope that helps!

Hi,

I am very interested to know what options folks use to travel. I like to go away for overnight or maybe 5 days but don't always need my oxygen company to make arrangements for a big tank of oxygen or a big concentrator to be delivered to where I'm staying(which my insurance company will only cover one time a year). I use a helios for my daily usage that only lasts about 6 hours, but that is not sufficient if I want to travel.

I would appreciate any suggestions, because I don't want to be confined due to the IPF.

Thank You.

depending on how many lpm's you use, you might consider renting a portable oxygen concentrator for your travels

may not be good if you need to sleep with O2

check out the Inogen, Respironics, Sequel Eclipse, etc

talk to your o2 company and discuss options with them

it might be worth looking into using the metal tanks for travel if going by car, don't know about trains and buses, negative for planes

I suspect the limitation is as much imposed by your provider as your

insurer. Is your provider local only? I ask because I've not known of

cases where either of the national oxygen providers refused to provider

oxygen for locations traveled to. You might want to talk to other

providers, unless your insurer has an exclusive deal.

the catch 22 with the small liquid resevoir is that not all locations fill their own

my supplier -- lincare -- gets their resevoirs filled someplace else

my daughter is getting a place near atlantic city again this summer -- last summer was no problem since i got both liquid and tanks

now that i am on medicare i had to make a choice, and i chose liquid

have been thinking about what to do if i go to jill's for an overnight

need to discuss options with Lincare, but I will probably have to pay for tanks

they did deliver a concentrator and tanks to her apartment last summer, curious to see what arrangements will be made this summer

don't know if i even feel well enough to do sleep overs there
