I did not follow any specific time table on when taking it -----------This is a huge amount and a dangerous protocol for a toxic person. ALA is a potent chelator that crosses the BBB, and needs to be taken properly, every 3 hours in lower doses, to effectively move metals *out* of the brain and other organs. Taking large amounts sporadically or at too long of intervals may actually make you worse by redistributing more metals *into* your brain. Chelators, like ALA, need to be taken at their half-life, to keep a steady level of chelator in your bloodstream, and this should be done for a minimum of 3 days including nights, to effectively and safely remove some metals out of your body, at a rate your body can handle. So could you give us some more details, like when you had your amalgams removed, and when you started this high dose ALA in relation to that, did you try anything else, and what are your symptoms, before amalgam removal and especially when you take those high doses of ALA. And have you ever done a hair test or how did you conclude that you are mercury toxic? My amalgams were removed about 6 years ago. I started taking high dose ALA about 8 months ago. I did have hair testing done and follow DMSA 500 mg challenge about 5 years ago. Both came back positive for mercury. I can't remember the actual numbers. I really didn't have much of a problem when taking the high doses of ALA. The most I took consistently was 600 mg a day, divided into 3 doses. I would also suggest you do alot more reading to make sure you understand all of this and especially the protocol, before you procede. I would highly recommend you get Cutler's books, Amalgam Illness and Hair Test Interpretation, and spend alot of time reading in the LINKS and FILES sections too. There is tons of info in the ANDY INDEX. And of course, keep asking questions here.-------I would and most of the time took it with food. Should this have been somewhat effective to remove some mercury? ---------I think I addressed this above. You may have done more harm than good, unless you're not toxic at all. Just for a reference for you, I can *feel* 6mg of ALA in my head, so I can't imagine what 200mg would do to me!------Jackie Will ALA also remove lead? ----------Not sure. DMSA is the best for removing lead, and it will also chelate mercury, and can be used with ALA, so can be a good choice. How do you know you have lead?--------------- Thanks again, Glenn

And no new or increased symptoms while taking the high doses of ALA? Then I would consider yourself lucky, and you're probably not as toxic as some of us. Maybe your body has been able to excrete some of your mercury itself over the past 6 years since amalgam removal. Some of us are naturally better excretors than others, and some are poor or non-excretors. Anyway, to be safe and to follow the protocol here, you should take a much lower dose of ALA and take it every 3 hours around the clock, maybe 4 hours at night, for rounds of at least 3 days on and as many days off. And like I said, do some more reading here, and make sure you understand the protocol.-------Jackie ======================= I would also suggest you do alot more reading to make sure you understand all of this and especially the protocol, before you procede.
