Guest guest
Hannah I am exactly the same as you are.. so no I don't think you are over sensitive.. If the subtitles are to " much " for him could he not watch wearing a set of earphones?? Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Am I being unreasonable? Dh and I have just had a disagreement. He, for some reason enjoys watching documentaries (tonight was 'Hell in Japan') depicting the extremes of human cruelty, torture and suffering. I know we shouldn't ignore what is happening/has happened in these countries but I cannot *bear* hearing about awful things like skin being peeled from a person or terrible, terrible things being done to pregnant women (I'm thinking of another documentary now, about Korea he watched a few weeks ago). The computer is in the same room, and although it's easy to not to watch, I can't not hear, so asked him to watch with subtitles, which he did eventually with much complaining, and telling me I'm being oversensitive. Is it me or are there more and more of these types of programs appearing? Does anyone else find it unbearable to watch such things? Or is it just me? Personally I don't mind violent drama but I cannot bear torture. Even now, the ending of Braveheart disturbs me. Any movie with torture in it will have me either behind the sofa, out of the room, or turning down the sound. My DH used to love watching what he called " a good war film " , until we watched Saving Private together and saw all those dismembered bodies and heard all those tortured screams of the injured soldiers. The old war films were so neat and tidy, there was no blood and everyone died silently. Hannah if I were you, I'd have a go at your DH for gross sadism :-)) Ruthie
Guest guest
O no not at all Hannah, I can't stand programme like that or scary films - when I watched Misery and Silence of the Lambs I stayed awake all night reading as I was so scared!! And for the same reason I rarely watch the news as I just find that that upsets me most of the time! Thankfully my husband doesn't really watch that kind of programme so it's not a problem in this house (but the same can't be said about cars, bikes and how to make things programmes!) Last night I was watching the programme about the murder of Bulger - it was just so upsetting I don't know how either of the sets of parents get through each day knowing what happened, it must be so haunting.
