Guest guest
Well, , I am the counter example to your Josh! My Dad had a severe stroke round about the time my mum probably discovered she was expecting me. THere was no guarantee he'd walk, speak, work again for some while, it was the days (I'm also 37) when doctors were gods and she told me about the hours she spent in tears in the hospital trying to get SOMEONE to understand that she and my sister would starve if she didn't get a doctor's signature on the form for the welfare office - her mum was in Cyprus, her brother in Singapore, her inlaws kind but mostly poor and car-less, my sister was 4 1/4. My dad DID recover speech; he can barely use his right arm and has a limp, but he got back to work about a fortnight before mum came home from hospital with me (and that controlling aircraft in and out of Heathrow, quite an achievement!). My mu haemorraged with placenta previa and was in hospital 10 weeks around the emergency CS. BTW, she WANTED a hospital birth but autumn 63 was a baby boom time and you had to pay for it for a second child! She ended up blue-lighting it to somewhere different from planned... I was 5.5 lbs, jaundiced, screamy and difficult, lost a lot of weight - they recommended nursing care only at one stage as mum " had enough on her plate, surely " . My sister was farmed out to our great-aunt twice that year and I don't think has ever really recovered, and most people would regard me as far from straightforward... Birth traumas? Well, this doesn't quite match up to yours, but I reckon my mum had a pretty tough time, and I'm stress and depression prone to this day. Anneliese and Baby Tim Re: A couple of items on the telly > > Child Of Our Time Wed 27th June I watched it too and really felt for the lady with PND as my circumstances were so so similar. (e.g. my dad dying when I was pg) However, I resented the bit implying that a BIG emotional trauma during pg (I was depressed too for my pg) could affect your unborn child and coupled with PND could make them more anxious and withdrawn (SHY). My son is of the BOLD type, more like Paris, very outgoing, happy, giggly and rather a handful. He is very independent too. So I found this implication a bit disturbing. Alfie is definitely much more highly strung than any of my other babies, and I did experience extreme stress when we moved house in December at 7 months pregnant - I would say I probably spent about two weeks in a constant state of very high anxiety over the move and all related problems....he did have a gentle birth though too..... I guess I am too, is it in the genes anyway and we are silly to think otherwise?
