Guest guest
Last night at suppertime (I can't say " at supper " because he never actually eats with us, cept on Sabbath) Yeshaya was so sweet, DH and I were doting on him. Then he went out (I gave him a lift, to Hampstead Garden Suburb. I was happy to do it, he was being so sweet.) Then came Mr. Hyde. First, he phoned me from Yitzi's, closer to home. Obviously the whole crowd had migrated there. He said, and I *presume* he was at least *half* joking: " Mum will you please cook and bring over pizza for everyone? Oh and drinks... " Needless to say, I told him where to get off. That wasn't the worst part. No, the worst part was him coming home after 2 a.m., with a friend, and both boys taking up residence in my beautifully and freshly prepared guest room, sheets all washed and beds all made up for my family who are coming home next week; hoovered room all full of crisps etc. He also knows we are in a period of mourning in the Jewish calendar right now; mourning for the destruction of Solomon's Temple. These nine days, culminating in a 25 hr fast on Sat night => Sunday night, we don't do any unnecessary laundry, we don't eat meat or drink wine, we don't have proper baths, cut our hair ,shave, listen to music etc etc. He knew this and yet he and his friend are sleeping in freshly laundered sheets which were for his sister and her husband, having eaten crisps and other crumb-making snacks all over the floor. I stormed in there this morning, yanked the TV out of the room, and told him in no uncertain terms that he had better strip the beds, clean up the room etc etc etc. I am furious! Selfish so and so! I feel better now! Ruthie
Guest guest
Ooh Ruthie, I'd have been mad too - and I hope you pointed him the direction of the washing machine too. Similarly, I got cross with DS as I made the bed in the guest room this morning for my sister who is on a flying visit (staying overnight before flying out of Stansted in the morning). No sooner had I shut the bedroom door when I noticed it was open again. And there was DS bouncing on the bed and " hiding " under the covers. But other than straighten it all out, at least I didn't have to clean and wash. Poor you. Todman Treasurer, Stansted Branch (R5) Mum to , 3½ Teenagers: Jekyll and Hyde! Well as I said, we aren't really supposed to do much laundry this week, but my help who is also my mother's nurse, has been doing the washing. So she stood over him and his friend till they stripped the beds then snatched the linen away for washing. They certainly got the message! Guest guest
Hi Ruthie I meant to reply to your last message but, between keeping the littles out of their wet-paint bedroom, sorting out my own stroppy pre-adolescent, and negotiating computer time with DH (a programmer: he's been working from home AAARGH!), the opportunity seems to have passed. Still, I'm thinking of you - glad your help has found a solution to this one, and I hope the rest of the week passes more smoothly. I said " what the heck are you going to BBQ? We aren't allowed meat this week. " (and boys hate fish, generally.) So he said " veggie stuff. " Tival, an Israeli kosher manufacturer, makes a terrific range of veggie sausages, shnitzels, burgers etc. I said OK, and despite the fact that I was teaching at 8 last night, I helped him get the disposable BBQ going, and put out some peripheral things like pickles and olives, pita bread, tahina etc. Salads aren't " boy things " so remained completely untouched! ) It was a big success. A crowd of boys bbqd the veggie meats, and they cleared up beautifully. The only thing they forgot to do was put the unopened boxes of Tival products back in the freezer but luckily I got to them before they all defrosted. And he steps across the threshold to the guest bedroom on pain of death! Ruthie
Guest guest
Ruthie I am pleased that he seems to have got the message ;o) a Veggie BBQ sounds lovely ;o) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Guest guest
It's goldfish memories, isn't it?! With Jemima, it seems that if I have a *huge* explosion then she retains it and behaves reasonably well for a day, maybe two if I'm lucky! Then it's the slide back down to the bottom of the pit and the build-up to the next huge explosion. What really gets me down, Ruthie, is that Yeshaya is 16, so you're nearly out of the woods, whereas Jemima is only 12 so I'm not quite in them yet!! ) (Actually, it's just a thought, rather than a really gets me down, but i hope ykwim!) Yea I'm P***ed at him atm for not getting up for synagogue this morning when he said he would, and I woke him 3 times; he's still asleep now at almost midday. So he's back to not being in my good books!
