Guest guest
Whew!!! Pleeeeeze, we ALL need a little rest here!!! Every time they stopped Glenn's fluid IV, his blood pressure would drop almost instantly....54/49..... They finally got Glenn transferred to St. Joes...his " home " hospital...LOL at approx. 3:00 p.m. yesterday. I had gone to work and was waiting for him to be transferred knowing they would be doing some kind of procedure(s) when he got to St. Joes. I left work once he got to St. Joe's. He was admitted immediately... His GI Dr. had a room in ICU waiting for him and he was there waiting for him...they turned that ICU room in to an operating room wheeling all kinds of additional equipment in within a matter of minutes. GI Spec. did an Endoscope and Sigmoidoscopy, so Glenn got both " ends " checked...LOL The diarrhea they have surmised was from the anti-biotic. Took him off the Cipro and put him on Flagyl (another anti-biotic used to treat the symptoms from the Cipro also). They were concerned about C-Diff infection from the Cipro... Anyone entering his room had to put on a gown and those horribly hot and sweaty rubber gloves... The Endoscope showed bleeding varices again in the esophogus and when the Dr. just touched it, it started " squirting " ...this was one of the risks of having the Shunt put in...and from what I gather, it may be an ongoing thing...oh, yeah, I really wanted to hear this!!! Well, thank God, the dr. was there waiting!!! If it had burst with no one right there, the situation could have been fatal. Thank you God!!! Had he not had the diarrhea from the anti-biotic, it may have been several more days before we " saw " a dark stool and realized there was bleeding again!!! This delay could have been fatal. Thank you God!!! So the " up side " to all this is that the pump IS working!!! The pump takes the fluid out of the abdomen up thru the tube in to the jugular vein and is distributed to other veins to go out through the kidneys in a " normal " fashion. The fluid going through the veins caused the veins in the esophogus to fill up, swell and bleed, so that's how they know the pump is working. He explained that the pump would not take " all " the fluid out, so he may still be bloated, but should not get to the painful point that he was getting to on a weekly basis prior to draining. The 3 areas of incisions have healed nicely and we can now manually pump the pump if necessary... oh I learned how to operate the IV poll this time in ER Room... well not really " operate " it, just what buttons to push to turn it off....LOL I'm getting my Nursing Degree in stages....LOL Glenn came home late this afternoon.... and is resting comfortably and glad to have " soft " foods instead of clear liquids. Still having some diarrhea...but they told him not to take Immodium....??? I guess it needs to get out of his system?? I wasn't there when Dr. told him that, so not sure. Thanks for all your prayers!!! Can we now have a day or two of some kind of normalcy???? Without pain?? Without blood??? Without diarrhea?? Just a calm, easy goin' day maybe??? I pray for that for all of you, too!!! Lots of hugs and prayers, Donelle Caregiver to Glenn
Guest guest
Donelle, Thank you so much for letting us know how Glenn is doing. I know you have your hands full and I appreciate you taking the time out to update us. I am so glad that Glenn came home. It is good that they decided the bowel problems were caused from the medications. Hopefully both of you will have a nice quiet, relaxing weekend. You both deserve it. I am sending Prayers up for both of you. God Bless You and Glenn. Ingrid > Whew!!! Guest guest
Well, it sounds like things are getting a bit back under control, scarey times, but this is a relief that he's home and they know what's going on. My, you must be a bundle of nerves by now. I would hate so badly seeing my man be so sick. I feel for you.~~Dianna Grandmommyandme@... wrote:Whew!!! Pleeeeeze, we ALL need a little rest here!!!
