It is only a smallish room Have you thought about bunks? While your DsS is not there you could remove the ladder so that your DS is not able to investigate the top bunk - both for safety, and because your DsS would probably be really happy that he has got somewhere where he can leave things and know they will still be there next time. Guest guest
Hi Kirsten We are in much the same situation - we had an offer accepted on the house we are buying in March - at that point we, too, had a buyer and the chain was complete. Everyone was happy with a July 23 moving date. Welllll..... The woman we are buying from has changed her mind so many times about what she is buying that she has not yet had the searches completed for her new house and says she is 'attempting to work towards' an August 1 moving date. Our buyers etc are happy with this date and we have booked a removal company and started packing... only to be told yesterday that she may not be able to meet this deadline. Scream!!!! Our problem is that we are going on holiday with all the children (1ours, 2mine and 2his) on the 3rd August and to put our stuff in storage for two weeks is going to add another £1K to the costings. Cancelling the holiday now would cost even more. Also, we have not yet exchanged contracts so the whole thing could fall flat on its face. Rant over. Anyway, Ben is ATM in a sort of cot/bed and he has been told he will be having a big boy bed when we move - I keep pointing out single beds whenever I see them and telling him that they are big boy beds and he's now started doing it too! As far as your step-son is concerned, couldn't he help choose a sofa bed himself and that way may not be so resentful. Again, a sofa bed could be seen as a move-up in maturity - when my eldest step-son first came to stay with us we had no room for him really to call his own, but bought him a futon that we kept in the hallway/study and he was far happier with that than he has been with any other combination of own room/shared room arrangement we have had since!! ann SAHM to (15/1/86), Kirsty (5/6//87) and Ben (11/7/98). Guest guest
Kirsten, I would let your step son design the bedroom. i.e. let him choose his bunk bed (as he is the eldest) and perhaps the colour of the walls which picture go on the walls. SO that he does not feel that it is your sons room and he is sharing it, rather that it belongs to both of them. I like the idea of the top bunk been his territory and he could leave his belongings there. I made a bag to attach to the side of the bunk which fastened with Velcro and had little pockets with the idea that you could store books, etc. in it. Also they have a light (star shaped from IKEA) fastened to the wall to give them some light when they are in bed. Guest guest
Ooh - we had exactly this too - it's horrid not knowing for definite. We ended up exchanging on Weds lunchtime and moving on Friday. We had hoped for ages we would move on that particular day so, for the best part, were mostly packed, which was an enormous help. It was so stressful though - will we, won't we - I had to resign from work as we were moving 100 miles and didn't want to resign too early then not move, but I couldn't risk not resigning either and being expected to commute while I worked my notice. And the removal men - well.... how stressful is that. I spent for ever, ringing round and round seeing who *might* be able to fit us in, *if* we were to be moving, right up to the day we exchanged - " Yes, Mrs Todman, we do still have one van available " or " No, Mrs Todman, we didn't have any last week and we still don't have any this week " . In the end, we did get a removal firm and they were great. I hope it all goes well for you in the end. I'm getting a knot in my stomach just reading your postings - brings it all back - our move 7 months ago was equally stressful - we had to find a new removal company at a week's notice because we couldn't confirm dates until the last minute with the original one, by which time they'd booked up with someone else - not to mention the cockup with the buildings insurance which almost meant the mortgage monies weren't released in time - was finally faxed through with about 2 hours to spare. Guest guest
Thanks - Keep your fingers crossed! so far we have booked a 7.ton lorry to move ourselves if the worst comes to the worst. but I will have to drive it (ahhhhhhhh) as DH has a new license without that on it!!! I am actually quite frightened about the prospect of driving my home to our new house with me behind the wheel of a new and very big vehicle! Still I suppose it all adds to the relief I will feel when it is all over! Can you also believe that I have just looked in my diary and realised that I have a committee mtg that week that I have to attend, a ant class I can't miss and I am hosting the monthly social event the day before we go (booked before the move). Don't mind me sitting here histerically laughing will you! I may well be institutionalised by the 1st Aug 01. Thanks for everyone's support though!
