Guest guest
Interesting about the low grade fevers. A lot of the people I know on the Adult Onset Still's Disease board have low grade fevers and similar to Dyanne, our usual temps run low. The bad part about AOSD is one of the typical things we go through as our disease progresses is the Still's or " Dragon Fevers " . They typically happen once or twice a day with each one lasting about 2 hours. (I had the 2 cycle) They are like clockwork every day, sometimes for several months and usually hit 103-104+ F and rarely less than that. Mine hit around 7PM till 9PM and again at about 2 or 3 AM. The middle of the night ones were the worse as I would wake up in a pool of my own sweat (really gross). By the way, nothing usually touches the fevers, not Acetamenphen or Ibuprophen. You just ride them out. The sufferers who get this symptom before diagnosis spend frequent time in the ER with the docs just scratching their heads as it is an uncommon autoinflammatory disease and the symptoms do not always occur in the same order with everyone. Those visits usually result in test after test after test and bunches of antibiotics to no avail until you move to the next set of symptoms. Guest guest
Yes mine seem to be on a 'Timer' too Tom..... just like the Menopausal Numbers I just try to ride then out. I do have 2 gel packs in my freezer with a nice soft terry towelling cover (they go wherever the worst of the heat seems to be, between my feet, against my chest or along my side)... also a big gel pack for my pillow that somehow works by convection to keep my face cool while I go to sleep. There's another one stored under my bed wrapped ina towel to give me relief thorugh the night! My Hubby keeps well away from the Ice Chest! Fun isn't it! My 'Infection Control' Nursing mate tells me it goes hand -in-hand with any Inflamatory Disease process! Guest guest
Tom, I just looked up AOSD.....Fevers like that sure sound miserable..My whole life I have had Sore Joints, Sore Muscles, Lousy Lungs (Pneu at age 10, chronic bronchitis since age 12), Chronic Strep Throat (finally quit in my mid 30's) Fevers, Allergies, you name it I get it. People dont believe at 99 degree fever can make you feel so bad until I try and explain its the same as if they had 102 degrees since I run so low. I've been diagnosed with Psorisis, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, Breast Cancer and IPF. We are pretty sure I have Sjogrens and Raynauds too Hard to tell when every drug I take has dry mouth as a side effect.. I've been tested for RA, Lupus, and everything in between. My family joke is that I got Every bad genetic combo possible between my mom and dad.since I have two brothers and one sister who are PERFECTLY Healthy and can eat anything they want and not gain weight. I really really try to joke about it but some days I want to scream. Up until 7 years ago I just " delt " with it. Now I worry, Not for me, but for my girls and gr kids. I firmly believe alot is genetic, my mom died of IPF 12 years ago. Her family " didn't have lung problems " she said but they were all farmers and alot had lung problems (from the dust in the hay you know). But the more we know, the more probable it was a form of IPF. Sorry Im tired tonight and that always makes it worse. I guess I just need to vent to someone who actually understands what I'm talking about. Thanks for listening Interesting about the low grade fevers. I try to keep a log of all my numbers so when they change along with other symtoms so when i contact or go to the doc feeling sick we are on the same page. I have found when I get low grade fevers at abnomal times I also start having other syptoms that usually signal an infection coming on. 33 FL IPF dx 1/06 > > From: dyanebillings > Subject: Low Grade Fevers > To: Breathe-Support > Date: Friday, February 27, 2009, 2:18 PM > > > > > > > Hi All, > I'm not sure why this popped into my head, but I have had low grade > fevers at night for years, no one has ever figured out why. Guest guest
Dyane, hi. i hear you about the lo grade temps. every time a nurse takes my temp and says its good at 98.8 i just chuckle and thats after something cold i drank. At 102 i become so delerious. An infectious doc at Penn was curious about the source of my lo grade temps as they are always around. I may go through a short period of a normal 96, but have to admit was shocked to see a 95.7. lol Infec doc had several thoughts an underlining infection, connective collagen disease and then it is a known fact i have sjogrens. But she thought there was more to it.
