Guest guest
Here's a summary of my round 1. Being hypersensitive, I started with 6 mg DMSA every 4 hours. The round was interrupted midway as I slept through the beeper on the second night; very unlike me! Since I don't have capsules yet, I had to put the DMSA on my food and save part in the capsule for the nighttime. That was fine, but there was an acidic taste left in my mouth. I had a range of symptoms, many of them like the reactions I have to chemicals and foods, including: burning, tingling, itching, nerve pain, muscle pain, tinnitus, heat flash, hunger, sneezing, feeling tired, and so on. This included trigger point pain I haven't had active for awhile. Most of the time the reactions were very brief—a few moments, ten minutes, but sometimes an hour or two, and relatively mild compared to the reactions I typically have. I had some less common reactions too like agitation at bedtime, heavy sleep, fatigue, feeling energized, perky and clear, almost euphoric and then crashing a few hours later. I know it is thought that DMSA doesn't cross the blood brain barrier. Some researchers think the blood brain barrier is more permeable in MCS. This might account for the euphoria-like feeling. Sometimes it seemed like this felt totally right; like the DMSA traveling around my blood stream to where the mercury is hiding out, just like the chemicals and food chemicals probably do. Other times, my body just felt very stressed and I wondered if I could make it through 3 days. But then it would shift again. Does this sound on target? The reactions on the day after the round were stronger, but things have calmed after that. Except the second day following the round I got a small mouth sore under my tongue. I wonder if that is from putting the DMSA on food, as I tend to get mouth sores from acidic food. Are mouth sores common when taking the DMSA? I am going to wait to get my capsules in the mail before I start round 2. Thanks very much in advance for any input you have. It's so helpful being on this group and learning from your experience. Many thanks, Lee

You might want to consider every 3 h in the day and 4 h at night to see if you get less in the way of symptoms. Be sure that you are on the recommended doses of at least the basic supplements. Mg, vit C, and Zn might help some with symptoms. Some people take C and Mg with every dose. There may be specific problems that you need to address with other supplements. > The reactions on the day after the round were stronger, but things > have calmed after that. Are mouth sores common when taking the DMSA? I don't know how common they are. I do think that you likely won't get them when you have the DMSA in capsules. This help a lot. I will try the 3 h dosing and 4 h at night as it would help to get less symptoms. I can only tolerate about half the supplements on Andy's list, so I take what I can. Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is conjugated with sulfate and my sulfation capacity is so poor that I cannot tolerate C at all. This seems not unusual in individuals who are chemically sensitive. I am on a nutritional protocol for my specific problems, so I am OK in that regard. Warmly, Lee
