Hi there and welcome,

As you already know many of us do not want to do RAI, and since you have

already seen this by reading some of our past messages, I am very glad you

still wanted to join us and find ways to prevent having to do it again.

Three cheers for you !

Like you said, there is no going back, and you did the best you could at the

time . That is all any of us can do.

I think the first thing I would do is get paper copies of your last few lab

results, and start tracking the changes yourself. Becoming more in control

of the situation is what gave me the ability to relax enough to be able to

heal.

It should be a simple phone call requesting you have them mailed to you or

saying you will come by the office and pick them up, what day is best

?...should be enough , as this is a normal request for thyroid patients.

Lets look at the bright side. If you have not dropped into hypoland by now,

perhaps you will be one of the few lucky ones and end up with normal thyroid

function for a few years. Wouldn't that be nice.

In the meantime, if it turns out you are really too hyper, there is always

the possibility of Tapazole. They say if one is allergic to one ATD they are

most likely NOT allergic to the other. OR...did you go on progressively

smaller and smaller doses of PTU at the time ? because rashes are often a

sign of being overdosed for our current needs.

As to what you can do now. my best suggestion is to learn which foods

contain iodine, and limit them as much as possible. Iodine is the fuel used

to make thyroid hormone, and less iodine equals less hyper. This is very

true for me, and is how I managed to succeed so far.

There should be iodine in foods info in the files section on our home page,

and also other things we have found work for us.

You will find several others here that have had RAI, so do not despair if

the messages happen to be all on anti thyroid drugs when you start reading

this weekend. Plus, all the same information we are working with while on

ATDs , besides the dose questions, will be the same for you.

And you are very right in feeling stress reduction is a major component of

our healing.

I'm looking forward to your being here.

PTU, improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the BIG

picture !

Pills alone only fix symptoms. We must help our bodies to heal.
