Anneliese, I hated school too and know exactly the feeling you describe, however I am really looking forward to Josh going to school as I am hoping that I can make the experience better for him. (he has his pre-school visit tomorrow before starting in September). I am quite looking forward to the GCSE days when I can help and maybe learn a thing or two myself. Having moved so often and attending in excess of 10 different schools, I missed out on some subjects, namely Chemistry and feel I have a gaping hole in this area, I might even consider taking the GCSE myself!! Also DH and I have no real intentions of moving and hope circumstances don't make us, as this will give DS a sound base in his education. Anneliese, I am sure you can find some positive things to make " the whole business again with Toddler Tim " a more positive one.

Guest guest
Thanks, . In all honesty, I'm certain that Tim will have a better time than I did - I'm fairly certain that teachers these days are taught a lot more carefully. The amount of mental cruelty I saw beggars belief and if I came across it at work I'd institute disciplinary proceedings pdq, but it seemed to be acceptable at school. I think that attitudes have changed. I don't really want to drag up all the reasons for my feelings about school - it still burns very strongly, for one thing, and for another I think a lot of people would find it hard to see why it was and is such a big issue - but suffice it to say that I think I would recognise the signs of a school where this was likely to happen and take avoiding action now! Also, I can draw on my sister's experiences with her two - she's in a good position to tell me what the key indicators are these days. Anneliese and Toddler Tim who's just had a leaky nappy (almost unprecedented!) I'm another one who gets very excited about Autumn and who enjoyed school - but I had a friend there who just didn't click with it at all, especially at Sixth Form. Academically, she did very well, which she informed a senior teacher when congratulated was " no ****ing thanks to this place " . (She became a psychiatrist BTW despite saying she wasn't very interested in people...) We'd moved in my O level year and in theory I was supposed to go to the local school for Sixth Form. I eventually managed to persuade parents and powers that be that I should go to the old place - helped by the fact that I'd picked up a boyfriend at the local school on their induction course and *still* didn't want to go. I *hated* that school, it just rubbed me up the wrong way and I really believe that I would have got into a lot of difficulties with both staff and fellow students had I gone there. -- jennifer@...
