Well, Helen, all I can tell you is my own experience. I'm one of

those unlucky (or is that idiot?)

---------No, you're not an idiot, and it makes me angry when people feel this

way, because how are we supposed to know all this stuff, when barely any doctors

or supplement producers/sellers even know or bother to find out. I am really

starting to realize what a scary and dangerous world this is for us toxic folks.

There is so much bad stuff out there, and so many sick, desperate people willing

to try just about anything. And what sounds bad about ALA? It's something

natural, and is a wonderful antioxidant, why wouldn't it be good for us? So

please don't beat yourself up about this, and just be thankful that you did

finally find this group and Andy's information.-----------Jackie

ones who took ALA as anti-oxidant,

300mg twice a day, while I still had amalgams. Obviously, I didn't

know any better at the time. But I did get much, much, much worse as

a result of that folly. Literally from really-sick-but-functioning to

completely disabled, in just 6 months. I attribute this to the ALA

moving mercury into my brain.

---------I am really sorry to hear about this, and I don't remember if you've

given details about this before or not, so forgive me if I'm repeating. But

could you explain in more detail what happened, did you feel better at first,

and then get much worse?

And if it's ok with you, we like to keep track of these adverse reactions and

put them in a file, so would you mind if we do that, and/or would you like to

write up something more complete? It would be greatly

appreciated!--------Jackie

I know they say that such damage can be permanent, but I keep refusing

to believe that they mean *permanent* permanent. Although, on days

like today, it's really hard to keep trying. I'm alive but I can't

call this a life.

-------------I don't think anyone can predict what will be permanent, if

anything, but I think they also can't *guarantee* you that everything is

reversible either. So keep *refusing* to believe, because I think that is very

powerful in and of itself. And I know, it's really hard some days to believe

that this nightmare will ever end. But hang in there, we have all had our ups

and downs, and I know it can be very scary during the down

times.-----------Jackie

I continue to follow Cutler's recommendations and prepare for

chelation. It's been over 2 years since my amalgams were removed. My

adrenals are shot. I haven't yet found any thing that helps and I

can't find a doctor to prescribe HC. I'm taking over 40 supplements a

day, plus the EFAs, but I still drag around.

---------I can't recall if we've discussed this before, so forgive me again,

sucky mercury memory ;), but have you done any saliva hormone testing, including

cortisol, but also other hormones? Because I was in the same boat before I went

to see , no doctor to help me, and my adrenals were shot too, plus other

hormones out of whack. And I believe the same thing as is happening to you, you

can take all the supplements in the world, but if you *need* hormones, you still

won't feel much better.

You can order saliva tests without a doctor, so let me know if you want info

on that. And if you can't get HC, you can try Isocort, which is OTC and

available on the net, and I used it before I got HC, and it did help. Also, are

you taking ACE, and other things to support your adrenals like lots of C and

B's?-------Jackie

So, I would say wait until August. You might see it as a long time,

but you'd be surprised how quickly you can go from functioning to

disabled. It's not worth taking that risk. Use the time to work on

your diet and supplements, strengthening your body and perfecting your

routines. Then when the oral surgeon is done, you'll be ready to roll.

Losing time is nothing compared to losing ground. Trust me on this one.

--------Once again, I am so sorry to hear that this has happened to you, and I

hope that proper chelation can help turn things around. And thanks so much for

sharing your experience, and hopefully it will help others, like Helen in this

example.----------Jackie

ly, I didn't know what was happening at the time. All of this

was figured out in retrospect. In early summer of 2004 I went for a

cleaning to the mercury-free dentist I had selected for dental

revisions. It was just supposed to be a cleaning but he decided he

needed to adjust my bite. He did some grinding on a tooth with a

really big amalgam, but I assumed that since he was a mercury-free

dentist he was only grinding on the tooth surfaces. However, I slowly

started to decline after that.

By September 2004 I had become so concerned about my increasing health

problems that I began a supplement routine, which included ALA 300mg

twice a day. I didn't notice any improvement but I believed that

supplements took awhile to work so I faithfully kept at it. I'm not

sure exactly when I stopped taking them, but I think it was the

following January.

By November 2004 my health was so bad that my medical people were

telling me to apply for disability. I thought it was pointless, since

I was too sick to fight for it, but they kept insisting so I did. I

couldn't fill out the form, so I took all my papers with me and let

the SSA rep just ask questions and then we'd dig through the papers to

find the answers. My claim was approved within 3 months, on the first

application.

I recall the change from June to November as a plummet, rather than a

decline. But going back through some sporadic journal entries, I

think that it was slow and steady until September and then it was a

dramatic plummet. I believe the dentist compromised that filling and

caused it to leak more than it had been. Then I took the ALA and just

moved all of that mercury into my brain.

On the plus side, after my claim was approved I used the money for my

dental revision and found a different dentist to do it. After the

revision was done, I did regain some mental clarity. However, 2 weeks

after my revision was done I tried a chlorella/cilantro protocol...

even though I only followed it for 5 days, the damage was significant,

but nowhere near what the ALA had done.

I've seen you make this point about the hormones before, and it's a

compelling point. I did do a 4x/day saliva cortisol test, which

showed very low cortisol. I am taking all the basic supplements, as

well as B5. I'm up to 4g of vit C. I am going to restart 1/2 dose

ACE tomorrow. I tried it a couple of weeks ago and it made me

nauseous. I was just about to travel so I decided to stop it. Now

that I'm back home, recovered and stable again, it's time to give it

another try.

I would like to get the full hormone profile, but my most pressing

need is a new pair of glasses. It's getting so that that can't be put

off any longer.

Thanks for all of the encouragement, Jackie, and all of the

suggestions too.

Wow, that was amazingly fast! Where do you live that you got it so quickly?

I fought 8 long, hard years and they screwed me out of 5 years of it.

You and I seem parallel in our needs here! lol I decided I had to do the

saliva test before I could start chelation, but have needed glasses for ages

(I'm looking through a sea of scratches). I'm charging it all as it is, going

deeper into debt, with more coming once the supplements start and child support

ends. Sears is offering $99 pair of glasses including ultralight lenses! I

don't know if that's everywhere, but I got a coupon. I would end up spending

$200 'cause I get the glare-free. I'm still not sure about it though. Every

dollar spent makes me cringe, but then I end up throwing my hands up in the air!

I got my glasses from zennioptical.com. The prices are great and the

quality is essentially the same as glasses bought from an optical

store. The downside is the selection of frames, the time to ship (they

come by registered mail from Hong Kong, and I noticed their time to

ship is a little backlogged when I ordered another pair last week) and

you have to know what frame measurements will fit your face. I use the

fit instructions at a competing store:

http://www.goggles4u.com/fit.asp (Don't order from goggles4u as their

finish quality isn't the greatest).

Anti reflection coatings are a great money maker for optical stores!

Online stores charge only a few dollars for it.
