Guest guest
> >>Going through such an early menopause must have been difficult for you. I'm 41 now and couldn't cope with going though an early menopause and Graves at the same time! I take it that your Graves came later on? Did the menopause trigger your Graves off, or did it just appear out of the blue? << Hi Aldyth, I can't say for sure what triggered my Graves, could be a combination of things. I had menopause confirmed by labs the summer of 2001 (at age 45) which was a year before the official Graves' diagnosis. I had kids late in life (at 36 & 38), started perimenopause symptoms shortly after that, menopause confirmed by labs at 45, and graves' diagnosed at 46. Lots of hormonal stuff going on the last 10 years. Thankfully I have a very supportive husband who has been very helpful through all my ups and downs! >>I was taught how to do deep relaxation (meditation I suppose) and really should be doing it regularly, but after a few minutes my mind starts to wander and then I pick up a book and read instead - not very impressive I know!<< Sounds like you're on the right track with your relaxation techniques. I love to read...it's one of the ways I choose to relax also. I am a type A person, so with Graves' I have had to learn to relax more. And after being very stressed about quitting my job (right before my GD diagnosis) and our family living on one income, I am now really enjoying our simpler, slower life. Sounds strange, but Graves' has brought good things to my life. Kind of like a hard knock on my head to wake me up and reset priorities. Hope your new labs turn out good! . Diagnosed 8/22/02; on PTU and homeopathic and herbal remedies; getting better.
