Custom Dosing DMSA Questions...Sources, Methods?

I'm sure this has been asked a lot. Other posters who asked were

told to go look at Moria's website or archives. Some of us are

really burdened already and just don't have what it takes to go hunt

and hunt and hunt for something that someone here already knows. I

apologize for asking. But I hope someone can help me out here

without sending me on a hunt.

Here's what I do. I dump half a 25mg cap DMSA onto a plate. I will

mix that in a little water and drink it immediately, then swish a

little more water in the empty glass and drink that, just to get any

residue leftover. And another swig to clear the throat and make sure

it is all washed down. The half cap I didn't use I will take with me

to work since mixing a glass on the job is not an option. I use the

half emptied cap on the job. I do the loose powder in water thing at

home. This seems to be ok, though I'm sure it is not scientifically

accurate, maybe off by a couple milligrams or so each dose. Your

comments on mixing DMSA in water? Your comments on other methods of

doing it? Mix it with food? Other drinks?

Are there any sources of ready-made 12.5mg DMSA caps that can be

accessed without a prescription?

You want to have a method where you are getting a fairly good

approximation of half by " eye balling " the two halves. I suggest

either dumping the whole capsule on the plate and dividing into two

equal piles or dividing the powder between two capsules of equal size

until they both look like they have the same amount of powder.

If I looked at powder in a capsule and powder on a plate I couldn't

tell if they were close to equal amount.

This part is ok. Rinsing to make sure that you get any residue is

important.

I don't think it is soluble in water so you have to make sure you

suspend it as best you can, rinse the container and take the rinse as

well.

Parents often mix it with something that they know their child will

eat like pear sauce. Andy says that if it is to be stored for any

length of time (and that is what you would have to look up in his

posts, I don't know how long it can be stored in liquid, maybe a day

in the fridge?) it has to be stored in acidic juice.

I don't recall seeing any. I find it quite easy to divide the powder

by eye between two capsules of the same size. That way I can divide

up a bunch and I know I won't run out at an awkward time. Also, it is

better for me to do the dividing when my brain is working, because

there are times that even simple things like that get me mixed up.
