It's my feeling that iodine is very important. I don't think the dosing has been figured out, and too many people are experimenting with high doses and unable to sort it all out when things go wrong. Iodine will push progesterone levels up. ----------I don't remember hearing this before. Do you mind telling me where you heard or read this? I'm not disputing it, I just don't think I've heard this before.----Jackie My understanding is that most MDs miss this because they are not monitoring progesterone levels, or are monitoring them with serum tests, not saliva tests. So, someone with low progesterone may do very well on iodine, ------------This is very interesting , because I was *severely deficient* on my first saliva test for progesterone, and I have had no problem with taking 6 or 12mg of iodine a day. I have not tried higher doses, because I have never done the loading test, and didn't recommend it. She actually didn't *recommend* the Iodoral, I was already taking it on my own, but she didn't tell me to stop either. But maybe my tolerance of it has to do with my low progesterone levels. Interesting.-----Jackie and someone who is already in the sweet spot for progesterone may end up with levels which are too high. Iodine can help thyroid, but it is also volatile. Too much, too soon, can throw a person hypothyroid, or even hyperthyroid. Someone taking thyroid meds may have to adjust accordingly, but it is often difficult to sort out. ------------I am not taking any thyroid meds, and I'm not sure what has done what, but my thyroid antibodies have gone down during this process of amalgam removal, chelation, and supplementation.-----------Jackie Useful info can be found Derry's book " Breast Cancer and Iodine " . If you are considering supplementing with iodine, I'd suggest proper baseline saliva testing, then starting with a very low dose. Way less than even 1/2 an Iodoral. My MD sent me home with instructions to experiment with 1-4 tablets of Iodoral per day, to help with hypothyroid symptoms (it's very trendy right now). I felt great for a very short time, and then crashed, badly. -----------Can you elaborate more on this ? What doses did you actually take, and for how long, before you crashed? Did it feel like a thyroid crash or adrenal crash, or what?----------Jackie I'm currently taking ~ 2 mg of iodine per day, having titrated up slowly from about 225 mcg. I'm planning on doing a female hormone panel from Diagnos-Techs to see where my progesterone levels are at. ----------Keep us posted, now you got me curious about this progesterone thing!----Jackie JMO.
