Guest guest
Bill At UTSW it also goes a step further in saying that you must have someone with you 24 hours a day for at least six weeks. Unfortunately, if you don't have family or friends who can be, that is considered custodial care and not covered by medicare. I'd suggest talking to social services at the transplant center, at your local senior center, at churches and anywhere else you might in your area. Perhaps given enough time you can arrange the help you would need with a minimal of paid assistance, if any. > > I'll be going through the tests in July which could end up with me listed > for a transplant. Guest guest
Bill -- that is a big concern some people stay in local hotels post transplant i think i also heard that there are people who will let you live in their homes during that time period Gift of Life is fundraising to build a facilty where families can stay after transplant, i think Penn is also trying to do the same thing -- kind of like a Mc house, but for adult transplant patients there might be a "youth" hostel, but I don't know where it is at the transplant support group, there is a young woman from New Orleans or someplace else in Louisiana who lived in philly for a year waiting for her transplant, the last time i saw her was several weeks after the transplant, she still needed to be here don't know what her living arrangements were the social worker will probably discuss that with you and hopefully offer suggestions as to where you could stay during that time period of course if money is not an issue you could stay in any downtown hotel, but that can be extremely expensive see how things go with the evaluation, then consider calling Gift of Life, maybe they can suggest something i have been told that rehab is 3 times a week for 12 weeks Pink Joyce (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: New topic: Post-op transportationTo: Breathe-Support Date: Tuesday, June 2, 2009, 9:21 AM I'll be going through the tests in July which could end up with me listed for a transplant.
