Ditto, but I don't tell anyone - in my view there's no point in losing friends

over different beliefs (unless they go to the core of what you value as a

person).

I'm sure I wind people up with my constant eulogising about Scandinavia

anyway... but like Ruthie I can't help it, it's too much a part of me :-)

Having said which, could you enlighten me as to how frum the Chief

Rabbi is? I was wondering this morning if the appointment is usually

middle of the road or holier than holy, in this country. I suspect

the former but I'd be interested to know. Is there a hierarchy of

rabbis, like there is of priests in the RC and Anglican churches (and

others I know but there are also lots of denominations where there

isn't so... trying really hard not to get anything wrong here!)

Um it depends on which Chief Rabbi...the present one is more

middle-of-the-road than the last one. Lord Jakobovits was very frum.

Rabbi Sachs is pretty orthodox but not *as* frum as Lord J.

Interestingly enough, Jonathon Sachs was at Cambridge with DH, and

studied Talmud with him, with DH in the teacher role, and Sachs as the

pupil :))

The Chief Rabbi is not set over all denominations, he is the Chief of

the United Synagogue which is *very* middle of the road. The right

wing orthodoxy don't consider him their leader, neither do the reform

or conservative.

Well that's a bit more subtle than Kitty (22/7/99) who shouts 'BOOBIES

LICIOUS' and 'BOOBIES PLEASE' at the top of her voice in the middle of

crowds!

Just to inject a bit of silliness into this, I was reminded by this

talk of rabbis of one of my friends at university who had a friend

who was training to be a reform rabbi. Her name was Tessa

Warren...Rabbi T Warren!

(Always rather fancied being a minister of religion myself (Oi, I

heard someone mention the word preaching at the back!) - but I lack a

rather obvious qualification!!!)

What's the difference between an Orthdox wedding, a Conservative

wedding and a Reform Wedding? (all Jewish)

Answer:

At the orthodox wedding the bride's mother is pregnant.

At the Conservative wedding the bride is pregnant.

At the Reform wedding the Rabbi is pregnant.
