Guest guest
Hi, I tried ambien in fact I still have some but I don't take it anymore because like Jody said, I was afraid to get addicted but I took it every night for 3 nights then I did every other night then I went to 1/2 a pill now I don't take it I'm in fear of getting addicted but who knows I'm probably addicted to Elavil I take 25mgs of that everynight It helps take the edge off the world and it helps me to unwind so I'm hoping its safer than Ambien. Alyssa's 2 cents worth for all its worth

Guest guest
> Thanks I wanted to know becuase I have been having so much trouble sleeping > .Any other suggestions? Herbal tinctures that contain valerian, skullcap or hops work great. If you don't have access to that, Celestial Seasoning herbal teas makes one called " Tension Tamer " that contains if not all of those. These are non addictive and work great for me when I have my insomia months! Some just have nights, we have months! Happy dreams! Guest guest
Joanne, when I was having a hard time sleeping I tried a few things that seemed to help some: 1.) I took a combination of calming herbs - it came as a combination - valerian was one of the herbs... you could ask at your health store for something natural. 2.) I took my copper supplement at night because that is calming, 3.) I would read a really boring hard to read book, 4.) I drank camamile tea before bed 5.) I did my variation of the corpse yoga pose before bed - if you don't know what that is, it's realy easy. All you do is lay in bed (because your purpose is to fall asleep) and let your whole body just sink into the bed and become one with the bed while doing really deep long breaths. You can start by wiggling your toes and letting your toes and feet totally relax, then your legs, then your hips and stomach, chest, arms, head... and breath in really deep breaths that you immagine filling up your whole body with fresh clean air. Now I only do the last two things, and I usually fall asleep way before I get to visualizing my head sinking into the bed. Hope at least one of these things will help... should have posted sooner so you would have had time to get to the health store if you wanted to. Pam B. Diagnosed 12/01 (hyper with both graves and hashimotos antibodies) Mostly alternative treatments - doing MUCH better. Numbers at the high end of normal range and antibodies going away. Still working on getting rid of my propranolol addiction. My story: http://www.webmosaics.com/thyroid/

Guest guest
Hi Joanne, In understand how hard it is to sleep. That was the worst feeling in the world for me. I didn't sleep for over a year! I never wanted to take any kind of sleep aid, because I hate being dependent on anything, but it came to a point that it was worse for my health to not get enough sleep. So, my doc prescribed 50 mg. Trazadone, which is really one the the FIRST anti-depressants ever developed, to be taken 30 minutes before bedtime. They hardly ever use it for depression anymore, but do prescribe it in low doses for sleep disorders. It is supposedly non-addictive, and I never had any trouble coming off it. At the time, it was the best thing that had ever happened to me. I was able to sleep, even at my most hyper. This was all before I was diagnosed, so I didn't know at the time why I wasn't sleeping. Well, I continued to take the Trazadone until I'd been on the ATDs for several months, then I cut back to 25 mg. for a while, then stopped all together, since the cause of my sleeplessness was under control. If you're really sleep deprived, as I was, I highly recommend this approach. Your body HAS to have sleep to heal, and if you're not sleeping you're not getting better. I assume you're on ATDs now? How long? You'll find that once you get into the normal range on your labs, that you'll be able to sleep again. Take care, Holly Dx. 8/2001; 5 mg. MMI Can we take ambien ? Hi well I was wondering if we can take the Ambien ? You know the sleeping pills? I was just wondering because I have so much trouble sleeping .. can anyone answer that one for me ? ------------------------------------- The Graves' list is intended for informational purposes only and is not intended to replace expert medical care. Guest guest
Oh, I forgot to add that I DO NOT recommend Ambien, or any other sleeping pill. Trazadone, like I said, is not a sleeping pill and is not addictive, especially at a low dose. All sleeping pills are highly addictive, and they don't work all that well, and you will feel bad in the morning. I wasn't even groggy in the morning when I took the Trazadone. I woke up well rested and refreshed. Can we take ambien ? Hi well I was wondering if we can take the Ambien ? You know the sleeping pills?
