Guest guest
Hi, Kristi, Thanks for responding. I do have a few questions if you don't mind. First, what is toprol and do you need an RX? Second, how long did you go through the hives/itching? Did the itching stop right away after the lowering or did it take longer? How long into treatment were you when the itchies started? I'm annoyed at myself for not picking up the Benedryl earlier today. It's too late to go out now. It was half as bad during the day but I am going out of my mind right now. I'm tempted to just lower my dose till Friday, but I'm not sure it is a good idea to do it on my own. Thank you so much for taking the time to advise. Guest guest
Hi , NO, No, NO.... Please do NOT lower your dose ! Start messing around and you will only make everything take longer. Plus, when you have labs drawn they will be next to useless in figuring out what is going on. You have LOTs of sympathy on the itching though. So many of us did not reply because the new gals had it so nicely covered. In fact I felt and extra warm soft for the list when I saw Kristi and , so wonderfully help you out. They are new, but they explained everything VERY well. Just makes us all PROUD. :-) Once you get labs and see that it really is safe to lower the does, you WILL feel relief the first day. At least that is how I remember it. I was not taking notes or getting copies back then, but my insane itching is burnt in my memory and can never be forgotten. Trust me here. I had to be started on 1200mg of PTU and THAT will make you ITCH !!!! If you are not waking up every few minuets all night and finding blood everywhere from the scratching you did while asleep, you are not really itching yet. LOL This can be gotten through, and then you will be able to help the next poor soul that thinks he or she is going to totally loose it. When the itching is at its worse, just think how this is SO much better than swallowing radioactive waste. Find something you LOVE to do, that will keep you busy. I painted my sewing room with the most outrageous paint technique. I used three shades of pink, all at the same time, and brushed each shade on and overlapped, and worked them together but still showing the different colors and brush strokes. It is a big room with curved walls that merge into the ceiling gently, so the walls and ceiling are all this one technique. Everyone raved about it. Somehow I was able to do this bit by bit, and the fun of it helped me not scratch so bad. Mind over matter will not stop the itch, but it can get it to a manageable level, and you can pretend the screaming is from the joy of your creation and not the frustration of wanting to slip completely out of your skin just for a rest. :-) -Pam L - who was never told of benadryl or tea tree oil or anything :-( But still LOVEs my PINK room. 3 1/2 yr.Graves and TED, PTU, Remission due to education, SLOW reduction of PTU, improved lifestyle, excellent nutrition, herbs, and looking at the BIG picture ! Guest guest
Hi , I'm a little sleepy, so bear with me if this message is jumbled. toprol is a beta blocker and you do need an RX. As I remember it, the hives lasted 2-3 weeks. They had already lessened by the time I lowered my dose, but I don't know how much the Benedryl had to do with that. Or maybe I just got used to it! haha. But they did disappear completely after my dose was lowered. Pretty soon after if I remember correctly. I think the itchies started about two months into treatment, but that's probably because I started out at 40mg a day and it wasn't until my idiot endo raised me up to 60 mg a day(because my hands were shaking), that I got the hives. \ If I were you, I wouldn't lower my dose right now. Especially since you've got blood work on the way. You dont want to send yourself into the hyper/hypO loop. It's hard to get out of. The Benedryl really does help a lot! Get some of that today! It's funny how many of us have gone through this and the doctors will try to tell you (or at least mine did) that it was not thryoid related, not related to the meds and that I should go see a dermatologist. Anyway, stick with it and before you know it these pesky hives will be a thing of the past! Kristi Itching-Thanks for the help > Hi, Kristi, > > Thanks for responding. Guest guest
Pam, Thanks! I'm glad to be giving back a little of the help I received here and SO desperately needed a few months ago! , Pam is right...when the itching got really bad, I did think about the radioiodine and it gave me renewed strength to get through it. Good luck, kristi Re: Itching-Thanks for the help > Hi , > > NO, No, NO.... > Please do NOT lower your dose ! > > Start messing around and you will only make everything take longer.
