Hi Janet, sorry about being late posting to this but ...

My sister was a vet nurse. She says that it is actually quite

difficult to get infected by the toxicara virus (?) - the one that

makes children lose their eyesight. For this to happen an infected

dog's poo has to lay in the same position for 14 days and the child

then has to touch that poo and put that hand near their eyes. The

weather conditions also have to be dry for all that time too (quite

unusual in England ;0) ).

I would be very worried about having a snappy dog near my DDs.

Children do things quite suddenly and if a dog is a bit psycho, it

could react by jumping and biting! Especially if it is a dog that is

a hunter (like a Jack ). My mum has a barmy JR and although

she dotes on it I insist that it does not come anywhere near my

children as they are ratters by nature and their instinct is to fly at

sudden movements. Mum was a bit off about this at first but when I

pointed out that all three of her children had scarred feet where

bitten by JRs she gave in!!

Francesca

Mum to Kezia (3) and Lily (13 months) but not pregnant with no. 3 yet

so a false alarm over the chickenpox!
